where to strengthen???

by mikey0406 » 04 Jan 2010 01:56

We know that there wont be much cash around in the sales, so whoever is manager is going to have to be coy with who they bring in and for how much.

Looking at the team of recent times, we are particularly weak up front, with Rasiak being the most immobile player (since Rougier lol) and we are a centre half and right back short. what does everyone else think?? looking at the team recently the only area where we are strong is our midfield. Cisse compliments attacking options very well, siggi can play anywhere in that midfield and Jobi' s pace has been an asset all season.

So two things...where to strengthen and possibilities in those positions, be realistic lol

Just cos we drew 1-1 with (a poor) Liverpool i hope it doesn't mask Mr Mads view on not needing to splash out on new players.....we NEED to strengthen, especially upfront and at the back.

I dont mind if he wants to give McD the job cos, to be honest, he'll do as good a job as any at the moment BUT i just hope he gives some funds to allow us to buy some decent experienced players - not youngsters and not loanees but someone who knows the championship and can make an instant impact to the side.

JM doesnt care if we strengthen or not- its totally up to the manager- and he knows he has to sell to generate the money to buy

Would it be SO bad to sell in order to buy? Three managers have been unable/unwilling to fold the 'genius' of Marek into the team for any meaningful length of time or effectiveness. Could he not be replaced with a more effective option?

There are always bargain basement players available and a decent manager makes the most of what he's got, smaller squads are often tighter squads and more effective as a consequence.

We are short on options and time scale just now so radical thinking, including making sacrifices of unrealised talent may be required if not desired?

Burnley seemed to do alright with a limited number of resources.

+1

Would suggest the only addition would be we need two strikers, esp if Long is leaving. Don't mind if one or both are loans tbh

Still would only need one striker if Long leaves as we have got this icelandic bloke (will not attempt to spell his name).

A Right-Back is a must so is a Striker

A centre-back would help but the other 2 positions are higher priorities as we have Cisse and Gunnar who can both play at centre-back.

Also maybe a winger aswell even if its on loan.

I wouldnt mind loan siggnings if MaccyD gets the job until the summer as it would mean a new manager can have his way with the squad in the summer without thinking about the plaers we signed in january.

TBM Sell Marek
Sell Long
Sell Henry

I wouldn't sell Henry though. Has a great free kick and a promising winger despite having attitude problems. And so far no manager has fully unearth the potential Marek has. The supporters has only seen glimpses of his great passing. If the new manager is capable of that I say we keep him till the following summer.

We still need a reliable keeper though. Fedders makes too many mistakes and was out of position for the Liverpool goal on Sat. Someone in the mould of Westwood or Speroni IMO.

Ideally I'd like to see, in order of priority:

Centre Forward
Right Back
Centre Back
Central Midfielder
Winger
Keeper
Left Back

In order to do that we'd obviously need to clear some of the current side out. I'd not be worried if we lose the following, on the previso that we can bring in suitable players in the above positions. We can easily lose a central midfielder or 3 to make way for a foward and a defender without any worries.

Long, Mooney, Gunnarsson, Cisse, Kebe, Robson-Kanu, Antonio, Matejovsky, Tabb or any of the players out on loan apart from Davies and Henry who I think could be involved yet, and possibly Bignall as it's too early in his career to let him go without giving him a chance.

we seem to be scoring goals currently, perhaps not quite enough admittedly
priority for me absolutely has to be RB

Sell Long, Marek & Henry and Gunnarsson, Mooney, & Ingimarsson if possible. Send HRK & Kelly out on loan.

Bring in Thorvaldsson, another striker (cheeky look at Smith if we get decent money for Marek), a centreback if Ivar goes (experienced CB on loan would be ok. What happened to Sol "WCBAP" Campbell?) and a right back.

Keep Davies at the club.

Can someone please tell me why do you guys want Henry to be sold? At the moment, he is one of the better wingers at the club although he is unproven at this level. A football with a great ability and scoring goal from midfield at every club he has been in ( incl. reserves). Why oh why would you want him to be sold!?

just dont like him very much, and dont think hes ever showed me, for 1st team, or reserves why he is so highly thought of.
though i did miss the one game he did very well in for the first team.

Because he's not made the step up despite his talent and he doesn't seem to be making much progress on loan or getting consistently good reviews like other loanees we have out there.

I really want him to come good, he would be a fantastic right winger if he could come good. I just don't think it's going to happen any more.

But its still rather sad that he is not given any chances to really prove himself in the first team. If I am not wrong BR did not play him during the pre-season ( correct me if I'm wrong). I mean we could give him a chance right? Don't tell me he's worse and more frustrating then Kebe?

as a winger hes like kebe, but with less pace, and less end product
but can take free kicks, and scores more goals

hes a had a few chances, and not shown enough in any of them
short of giving him an undeserved run in the team to see if this works, i fail to see why he deservesa place in the squad, let alone 1st team

keep on loan or sell IMO
