who do you like, from the current crop of youngsters?

by Einstein agogo » 25 Aug 2009 07:37

So, who do you rate from our current crop of boys

IMO , I like:

Gylfi Sigurðsson - this guy is a real talent , and i hope he keeps playing to gain experience.... to me , i think this guy has potential to be the next Steven Gerrard
Ben Hamer - My first choice keeper , 20 clean sheets last year , doesn't suffer from butter fingers like fed
Nicholas Bignall - strong ,powerful , quick - would be ahead of long on my teamsheet
Radoslav Vasilev - would like to see him come on as a sub in a cup game... potential to be a great target man 6ft 2
Scott Davies - the next sidwell? slightly erratic so far this season BUT a real star in the making

so , your thoughts??? :?:

I like Davies - after Chelsea and Forest, I was all prepared for him to be my favourite player in the world. I am sure he is only a few 20-yard screamers away from being the new Darren Caskey.

I liked what I saw of Davies in his time at Aldershot when they were on Setanta a lot but worried whether he could make the step up-still not sure.
Having seen Siggy for the first time last Saturday he looked the part but his lack of pace could hold him back.
How could anybody not like Jem?
Hamer looked good in the two loan games that I watched on TV.
Otherwise the jury is very much out on everybody else.

Davies has got pace - he went past the Forest right back while holding onto the ball in that game.
Siggy looks big and strong - that might make up for lack or pace?

Pearce - future club captain

Karacan - very good in the "Makelele" role

Sigurdsson - Looked promising on Saturday but only 1 game to judge him on really

Davies - The most exciting talent I've seen play in the 1st team from the academy to date

Very impressed with Bignall. Hoping to see him play tonight if his injury has cleared up. He's only 5'10" but he looks strong and adds some much needed physical presence up front.

The only 2 that have stood out for have been Karacan, who now looks far from a 'youngster', and Bignall, simply as he has blistering pace that can scare the living shit out of defences.

Sigurdsson and Davies have shown flashes of potential, the rest i don't rate, including Pearce.

The jury is still out on all of them......

I like Sigurdsson, but his lack of pace probably will hold him back. That's not something he can train harder at and get better in. He just aint got pace.

Sidwell and Shorey both looked class acts for the Villa last night. None of our youths are as good as those two or have the potential to be as good.

Pearce - Looks a lot better than the 2m we spent on mills

Karacan - Works hard, gets stuck in and has a lot of potential

Siggs - tbh when i heard he was in the team on Saturday it worried me but he was our best player on the day. awesome set pieces.

Bertrand – Who could forget, he has good dribbling skills, he has pace, alright deliveries and would be keeping player of the season out of the squad.

I'm sorry, that's nonsense. It's way way too early to make that sort of call.

Sidwell was 20 and Shorey a week away from his 20th b'day when they joined us in the 3rd tier.

They made no better 1st impressions than any of Sigurdsson (who is 19) Church, Karacan, Pearce, Robson Kanu (who are 20) and Davies (who is 21) have made in the 2nd tier. Young players have huge potential to improve, all of the above will do so; they may not get there as there are many factors involved but they certainly have the potential to be as good as Shorey & Sidwell.

(PS I may be exaggerating it with Church, but hell, the lad's a full international already....)

(PPS Yes, I know it's only Wales...)

Pearce is by far and away streets ahead of the rest of the youngsters

After him I like the look of Sigurdsson and Davies

Karacan and Henry are others who look to be at the start of something promising

Haven't seen enough consistency from the rest as yet to know any more than they look to be promising.

Robson-Kanu : seems as though with a bit more experience and some shooting practice, could easily take the first team place down the left side. Really pacey, great first touch yadda yadda yadda

&

Bignall : Seems to be really strong against defenders, but slightly wild in front of goal on occasions, looks like he could become the striker we've needed for quite a while.

Sigi was great on saturday, davies has great potential, pearce looks pretty good.

I like Henry and in the past have been impressed with his free kicks and corners and general delivery, although he hasn't looked great recently, except in the burton cup game where he was played more through the middle.

I think people are giving Mills a hard time, he was clearly blowing steam towards the end of sheff u match and is clearly not quite fit enough yet but as that improves i think he will be great. A bit weak with some of his headers though on saturday. Think match fitness is the key here.

The one who will go furthest IMO is Siggurdson, by far the best technically of the lot. Hal and Jem are also decent, and could eventually make it for a lower tier Prem team.

There are some serious talents waiting in the academy ATM as well. Baggie and MacDonald will be better than any we have at the moment IMO.
