philM Doh!!

Ian Royal The player was on the edge of the box and running into it. Definite penalty.

So, if a player is tackled outside the box and falls into the area it's a pen? On the edge is not in. The Burnley player in that picture is only just in the area therefore the offense must have occurred outside the area, therefore no pen.

He's still an idiot for doing it though.

He was brought down with at least one foot in the box. Your tackle example no certainly not a penalty. But a tackle is an instant. A shirt pull has a duration and isn't just where the point of contact happened.

You could argue the original offence happened outside the box, but it also happened in the box and that was where the Burnley play went down. Regardless, if your that close to the edge, given the amount of time a ref has to see it and give it, you can't complain if it's given as a pen.

Saw it several times and I think the ref got it spot on.

Ian Royal And his ridiculous reaction to the blatantly obvious shirt pull for the penalty. He's a fecking crazy.

Wasn't a penalty. That's what annoyed him.

We've seen this before. If it starts outside but the offence continues into the box they can give it.

I don't think that picture should be taken too literally - Thompson looks twice the size of Bikey.

Probably not much else to add but someone like Bikey just isn't ever going to change. For all his good play at times, he has got a streak in him that is just ridiculous. I don't pthink he's particularly violent or reckless..just well....stupid.

Now you see why Coppell is reluctant to use Bikey for every match of the season, because occasionally and today in a massive game he's let him and the team down massively. I've seen some nonsense about 'if Bikey had played every game we'd have won the league' or 'Bikey is so much better than Duberry' and all this, now you see what someone like Doobs brings that Bikey doesn't. Calmness and professionalism, he's not been caught out stupidly and given away a pen and then even worse got himself sent off. Cost Reading the game no doubt about it, not just that now he misses the rest of the playoffs.

The FA will probably take further action, the offence itself was shocking, adding to the fact his reaction was appauling. Can see him not playing again until September. Thats presuming he's still a Reading player.

Fookin hell. That's just blown 5 years of cred as an Oxford grad out the window then. "just logging in from the M6"... christ ,even spacey couldn't come up with a line like that.

You were never funny but now you're just really fcking boring. The end of the season can't come soon enough for you - take the summer off and come back in August with some new material.

I'm not surprised the ref gave a penalty, it just wasn't a penalty. The offense took place outside the box. Look, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one Ian.

Errr LOLz

BTW the fan's over-reaction to this would put even Andre Bikey's over-reaction skills to shame

Exactly my point. I do not want to see him in our shirt again.

Sorry but

Is it that offensive to you?

Do you find yourself easily offended?

The guy obviously gives a shit. For that, even tonight, I'm more glad of his presence in the squad that that of Stephen Hunt or Jimmy Kebe...

And to think Long got slaughtered on this site for throwing his shirt down when subbed.

Bikey needs to manage a little bit of that anger. If he ever plays for this club again will be interesting. I'm not sure Coppell will give out a chest beating rally cry over that incident.

There's something right about this, though perhaps not enough. Bikey's red mist is never going to go away, and if SC or the next manger decide enough is enough I won't be arguing. But he's a talented and passionate player. Rather the pros and cons of Bikey than a team full of mediocrities.

All I can say is I'm very very disappointed. Not so much about the penalty but his attitude. Had he not pulled the player he might've gone on to score anyway. But his attitude is just not on.

As you may hve observed I generally defend players/managers/staff to the death as I abhor the short-sighted, cynical, fickle, knee-jerk nature of a significant proportion of English fans which, with all due respect to anyone who's head fits the cap, I consider a sign of low intellect. Sorry if it's harsh but I strongly believe that.

With Bikey I would very much like to defend him and not just turn into a reactive, fickle "Coppell-out" "Hunt-out" "Harper out" fool... but I can't. He's a very good player (Premiership quality possibly) but I'm sorry with his mood he's not good enough for anything above League 1. It is a VERY big flaw. Something that I don't think is fixable. What a terrible shame.

Like Sonko... you can be as good as want but as a defender all you need is one error in a game and you can cost your team 1 point, 3 points, or in Bikey's case £50million and a place in the Prem.

A defender has to be RELIABLE. And a reliable attitude and temperament tops the list.

Right now I feel like saying a very sad goodbye to someone I've always rated.

Coppell took a risk with Bikey two seasons ago after a sending off in a pre season freindly in Sweden he knew what he could be like and he proved that his is a liability against Burnley.

Too pull a player shirt in the area and then stamp on a player while on the ground is bad enough but to take the Reading shirt off and through it to the ground is disgarceful.

I hope for one that he never get a chance to play for Reading again.
