Whistle This is a football ground, not a graveyard or a church or a sacred place for ancestor worship.

I completely disagree.

In a modern, secular society football grounds are often THE place of worship for generations of families. For many of us being taken to the match by our dad would have been a significant formative experience in our early years. Three generations of my family have supported Reading - it's the thing that binds us together through the ages. For me it seems the most appropriate place for ancestor worship.

Shoddy, shoddy effort from RFC.

Can I start by thanking you all for the wonderful support you have shown for my suggestion, I would like to confirm, that today I have received a letter from Nigel Howe the contents of which are " I have looked at the ring that has been put up already and I am quite happy with the design. I have asked Ray Booth, the Stadium manager, to look to put two rings on both the North and East Stand which I believe should be adequate for the purpose of pproviding memorial flowers" Well that is a sucess story in my book, but I would have liked to have seen more rings provided but will gladly accept this solution. At least I will now be able to leave a tribute to my dear late wife in a more respectable manner. again thanks to you all

Good news mate, and well done. I think many of us will be delighted with this. Two rings are better than none though, but would have expected less tightness from a club and chairman of some wealth.

There is also a school of thought that football stadiums are the cathedrals of our time, with the likes of wembley and the meirates being as much a tourist attraction as st pauls cathedral

My view on it is that if Reading FC are a "community club" - as they so often tell us - then they need to recognise that it's things like this which help remember and commemorate the community which will help them achieve this aim.

Little things which don't bring in any money and which may cause a small amount of operational effort and inconvenience but which are greatly appreciated by the club's community are the things that bring them tremendous goodwill - and are also one of the key differences between being a part of the "community" and being a faceless football "brand."

Nice to see its all worked out nicely.

Have to say I would have preferred a seperate memorial wall at the stadium, but I guess that the club didnt foresee these walls being used the way they are.......... its just that spreading messages across the bricks and felt-tipping around them looks terrible.

But hey, these are the walls we have and its good the club listened and put some rings there

Hopefully they will provide more as it gets seen to be more successful. Also helps brighten up the wall which is quite pleasant.
