nope, the same minority who wanted him to go then, still want him to go and are therefore having a go, still
i have seen very few who have changed their minds on the basis of the summer
you would be foolish to do so without waiting till the season starts in my opinion.

i think its a slim majority who were pissed off with transfer dealings and club policy last year and forgave coppell even though he took us down but it seems all the same mistakes are being made at a lower level so now they are even more pissed off

Simple, because we thought he had learned from his mistakes. He hasn't, we are still doddling int he transfer market and showing no ambition to sign established big name players.

How many "established big name players" would come to Reading??! Who are in the championship now, not in the top league anymore

Established championship players or foreign players basically, any sign of ambition in spending the funds required to get proven quality players in.

A few people vocalised their doubts as to that. Continuity = good, same mistakes = bad.

I actually think gus has it, although someone who says "I don't think this is a good idea" does not necessarily mean that they want the manager out. Ultimately, they just want things to improve.

'greed %100. Sunderlad have showed the ambition we don't even dream of having. You can't even say they're loads more wealthier than us - its just that they spend their money.

I would've said they were wealthier than us.. and I would've said that the chairman is alot more generous.. when was the last time we had £40m to spend :? thats the great thing about having ex-player chairmen

John Madejski has 40 million to spend - he just doesn't offer towards his club.

Indeed it does. They get double our crowds, have a much bigger fan base, and have an extra £20 million to spend on top.

I'm not suggesting we'd spend half that if we were in the prem, as our scouting network still seems geared to us being a decent championship club hunting for bargains, but as we were in no way an average premiership club in stature or financially, it's a bit unlikely that we'd spend an average amount if we were there.

By the way, before selling Kitson our official transfer budget for the season was a grand total of £0.00p, which goes some way to explaing a lack of signings.

Does anyone know if he makes 100% of sales available as transfer money?

I asked the question on a multi fan forum on why Sunderland spent so much money when not long ago they were broke. These were the responses:

1) Niall Quinn is pretty loaded, but the main money is coming from the Drumaville Consortium which is basically made up of rich Irish race horse owners and betting firm magnates.

They do have a lot of money

2) What the guy above said

3) Quinn is just the figure head. None of the money spent is coming from his pocket.

This had all been confirmed on Wikipedia.

In other words Sunderland have considerably more money than us and that's why they are spending more.

This was my main point rhroyal. We do have 40 million in the bank or in the chairmans pocket and we havent/don't/won't spend it.

You have just quoted yourself. I do see your point, but can you blame Madejski? I wouldn't throw £40m like that. Unfortunately we are run by a businessman and Sunderland are run by a former player, they have different passions. Madejski has just as much ambition as Quinn, it's just a different sort built upon stability and business sense.

It may not be so pleasing for the fans but it's safe. Imagine this harsh scenario. Both Madejski and Quinn die of heart attacks. JM's next of kin wants to pull out from Reading, as does Quinn's from Sunderland. Sunderland have all of a sudden cut their main connection with the consortium and could be looking at all of them withdrawing their support. Considering Sunderland were in debt before they took over, they are entirely screwed and will follow the models set by the likes of Leeds.

We will be in position to stand on our own 2 feet and continue to build. It may not please us as much now as spending like Sunderland do would, but we have no immediate threat over our heads unless a complete idiot takes control of us.

Plus there is the point that Sunderland have a 48,000 stadium and more revenue than us.

FFS we're taught not to use it at university, but this is a matter on football and it is reliable enough. Consider to yourself who could possibly think "I'm bored, I know what I'll do, I'll put up a load of fake crap on the Drumaville Consotium on Wikipedia. That'll be a bloody great laugh." Somehow I don't think so.
