SteveRoyal Unless i'm much mistaken, Manchester United only have three strikers who play regularly.
Rooney, Tevez and Saha.
Still, I agree with you.
papereyes On that note, I think if you're not including Ronaldo as an integral part of United's forward line-up, I think there's a point bounding off down the hill yodelling "missed me".

Gordons CummingArchie's penalty And for those who are slagging off Noel Hunt he definitely hits the target a lot better than his brother!

I remember people posting up clips of Fae looking like Pele as he scored against some French side. Basically youtube can make anyone look good. He can't be as bad as his brother surely?

clauski The problem with a mooted interest in Hunt or in Mooney from Cork is it shows the lack of imagination on Coppell/the club's part once more. I and others on here have spoken before about the need to take some risks, I think this holds true. It was asked if the feelings on here now were similar to 2005 and yes there was some misplaced negativity then, but I have honestly not approached a season in such doubt about our chances of success in a long long time. I hope I am proved wrong. I wanted Coppell to stay but now I am questioning it - why is that?
http://soccerlens.com/english-champions ... 2008/7851/
Take a look at the list of "ins" and spot the odd one out
Hear him talk about Sodje being surplus as "centre half is probably my healthiest position" - maybe in numbers but in quality surely the 66 goals we conceded as we got relegated on goal difference and an inability to decide our best partnership puts this into question?
Coppell's loyalty to players I think has now become a noose around his neck. Unfortunately I think he is indecisive on transfers and team selection becuase of this. Undoubtedly there is dissatisfaction among the fans. A poll on this site may not reflect all supporters but I am willing to bet there will quickly be signs of unrest from supporters if we start slowly and 500 noisy disgruntled fans can have more of an impact than 5,000 quiet supportive ones.
We talk about teams needing to come in for our players in the next 3 weeks or there will be a premium put on them yet it will be no different in any club we plan to disrupt by buying their player 3 weeks before the season starts - we have simply acted too slowly.
Bottom line I think we need to do something dramatic and do it now and make a statement of intent or we will struggle to live up to past glories with an older adn weakened team.

Alan Partridge It's not that he's a Hunt honest, He's 5'10 and imo not significantly better than our other 3, it doesn't make a great deal of sense to me. Certainly no Kitson replacement, if we sign him and 1 other 'target man' then fair enough I would be satisfied with that.

FiNeRaIn, 30 Jun 2008 09:50 Nice to see the excuses have begun already.
A few weeks will go by and still nothing, coppell will play it calm, the RTG's will back him and ridicule the realists, it will die down for a bit.
A month will go by and still nothing, coppell will say " we have a few targets", the RTG's will back him and ridicule the realisits, the realists will say " well fvking sign them then, we don't want " target's", we want signings". It will all die down for a bit.
The start of the season will begin, coppell will say " player's weren't available at the right price, money was available though", realists will be angry, RTG's will back coppell and laugh at the realists.
We get off to a crap start, lose at forest, get 3 points from our first 6 games and the team looks poor.
Coppell will say " we are happy with what we have got", the RTG's will agree, the realists will hit their head on the desks and say " here we go again".
Prediction in a nutshell.

Arch It's a signing, that's all (if it happens, of course). Just like Kebe was a signing, Matejovski, Fae, etc, etc. I never took the view that Kebe was signed as a direct replacement for an ailing Little; he was just a 400k addition to the squad. Fae and Matejovsky were international midfielders from respectable national teams; potentially decent signings, not direct replacements for Sidwell. Cisse this time last year, a signing. The fact that Hunt doesn't address a specific need (i.e. A Kitson-like player) is neither here nor there in our assessment of this signing. So criticize the club all you like for not getting a Kitson clone, but don't get on Hunt's case before he's even here. If he has his brother's commitment coupled with good finishing, he'll be a good acquisition at the price. To be booing Hunt already because he's not Kitson is as irrational as booing Kebe because he's not Little.

Alan Partridge No one is 'booing' anyone. Coppell has gone on record numerous times saying he doesn't like big squads, yet he continues to clutter his up with signings such as some of the ones you mention, who as you say weren't direct replacements. That's how you end p with massive squads and players like Bennett and Sodje. Buying quantity over quality.
