Like rats leaving a sinking ship....

5.5 million though - that's huge. Is it 2 million + 3.5 million if he scores 30 goals and Stoke win the league or something?

Oh well, even more in the war chest now. I can't wait until Coppell goes mental with his RFC credit card and shocks you all with his midsummer spending spree.

I bet if news had leaked earlier that Kitson wanted away and he would probably even join Stoke in order to achieve his aim, season ticket renewals would have been a lot less.

Do that many people go to football to see ONE player?? If he joins Stoke if will purely be for the money, and you can not blame him for that.

It won't be for the football as Pulis will continue with the long ball and Stoke will be relegated next season.
Of course they don't only go for one player, but when your best players start leaving, with not even a sniff of a rumour that someone as good or better will be replacing them, it makes you think that maybe we won't have a team that will be able to fight for a top 6 place come the end of the season, let alone automatic relegation.

What slice to Cambridge get?

Should go down well for a non-league club!

Still not even the vestige of an inkling of a sniff on pravda yet.

Maybe they're having a "good news only day" in order to try and milk the last day of Season ticket sales?

Premier League football is Premier League football. Kitson wants to play for England, he won't do that playing for Reading in the Championship.

We are all getting worked up about 'our Dave' leaving and I for one will be sad to see him go, but if we get £5million for him, Coppell (contrary to belief) is no fool and he will look for another centre forward type, if he does not already have a target in mind. I don't think they will let Kitson go unless we have a replacement in mind.
I remember feeling the same way when I heard that Kerry Dixon was leaving and he was being replaced by some bloke called Senior!!!!!

Its not always bad when a player leaves!!!!

What on earth are you basing that on?

History would suggest exactly the opposite.

I am just basing that on the fact that I think that Coppell / Hammond / Dillon / Downes have done OK in the last 5 years taking RFC forward (apart from last years blip) so I would have hoped that if they knew they were going to be losing players they already have replacements in mind.

I don't think we have sold a player without a replacement coming in recently. The fact that the 'replacements' have not been good enough - Sidwell / Cisse - Little/Oster- is another matter.

If Kitson goes we will sign someone else and they will be a hit or miss. (Who plays centre forward for Brentford these days!?!?!)

Now that both Sidwell and Kitson hve gone, can we start being rude to ginger haired players in our opponents' side again?

Agree but I would doubt for one minute that the Stoke / Pulis combination will give Kitson a chance of playing for England unless Cappello decides to play 5 - 0 - 5, and bring in defenders based on how high and far you can kick a ball!!!

Fukks sake it's only July 18th woman!

It'll be at least the end of the month before they manage to track down Michael Meaker's whereabouts.

However much i rate the bloke, which i do very highly, £5.5m million for him is utterley ridiculous and there is no way the club can keep him with that money on the table.

If its true Stoke have been totally and utterley ripped off.

Kebe was always here in case Little didn't make it back or left. (Doesn't mean he is good enough - jury still out)

We still have 4 wide players in Hunt, Convey, Henry(given a chance in place of Oster - can't be worse can he?) and Kebe. As we will always have 4 strikers.

That may be so, but until Little and Kitson have been replaced like-for-like, then our first XI is inherently weaker.

There is no chance that the fee is 5.5 million. It just keeps getting bigger. I think the real figure will be the originally stated 2+2 million. There is a lot of mutual respect between Stoke and Reading so it will be a fair deal..

Why are we bothering with this 2+ 2 million shite? If Stoke stay up in the Prem this season, I'll eat my many hats.

Royal Rother Relax - this deal isn't going to happen.

It was all so inevitable once this had happened.

Ooooh, I cry foul Mr Moderator!!!

My full quote was:

Royal Rother I really think this is just so much crap. £4m for Kitson I could just about live with, but only just, but £2m +£2m based on Stoke's performances in the PL, when it seems highly likely they will pick up bugger all points, seems completely out of the question.

Relax - this deal isn't going to happen.

I never made comment on whether he would go or not, just was damned certain it wouldn't be for £2m + £2m!!

Kebe and Henry couldn't get a game ahead of Oster last season.

Oster couldn't get a game ahead of Seol or Little.

What does that tell you about our current right wing options?

Gutted that Kitson is going but not anywhere near surprised. If we see the £5m then it's not a bad bit of business for the club but it doesn't soften the blow of losing an absolute gem of a player who will be almost impossible to replace.

The sooner the rest of the wantaways are cleared out the better.

You can guarantee SC etc. will have their eyes on a number of possible replacements, whether they can be persuaded to come to Reading is another matter. Whatever happens 4 million is a sound piece of business.

I think a lot of you guys have had it too good, I remember trying to get excited about a forward line of Mick Hollis and Dennis Nelson!
