All the penalty shouts were borderline, theirs as well as ours. They all went our way, which you could call lucky, but the TV tw@ts suggesting Liverpool "should have had" three penalties is just daft. Anyway, I'll take the win however it comes.

We're still pretty dire, to be honest, but the most positive thing starting to emerge is Convey is giving us a nice mix of quality and urgency going forward that we've been badly missing.

Both centre backs were well dodgy today. Bikey looked a couple of classes superior when he came on.

It's probably going to take concurrent injuries / suspensions to 2 of Ingi, Sonko and Duberry for Bikey to get his next PL start from the look of it, but I still think he has looked our best defender this season.

Lucky? yes Liverpool should have had at least 3 penalties, Readings wasn't. The ref has given every decision Readings way and they just said that "the reds" have to beat the ref as well as Reading!!!

Agreed, best thing from today's game was Convey and the fact that we attacked instead of packing it in. I would love to see Bikey get a start. I was thinking Bikey-Sonko might be our best pairing. I am sure Coppell will start the same XI in our next game as a reward for the historic win.

OK, and appreciate the compliment. I thought Ingimar's son made a couple of howlers, but in the final analysis if you score three times you put yourself in a great position to win. So I'm happy to chalk that one up as a great performance all round.

It seems to me that this result is a triumph for consistency in team selection over rotation and resting.

We know Liverpool are a far better team than us (hell, their wage bill is probably 10 times what ours is so they damn well should be) but finally we saw the combination that took us so far last season (fighting spirit, luck and no little skill) all come together on the same day again - probably for the 1st time since the Man Utd game.

The confidence this will give the players should be enormous and whilst the teams below us all lost again (and with it lost a bit more of their own confidence) it is not unreasonable to expect this to kick start a move into relative safety in the coming weeks.

Feared the worst when I saw Rafa had selected more or less the full monty to play against us but there was no need to worry we came through dispelling amongst the best the Premiership had to offer with the same team that won the Championship 18 months before.

After the direness of last week we managed to go to the other extreme this week but the question is can the confidence and lift that this result has given the squad be carried over into the game at Birmingham where we will not be given quite so much time on the ball.

I don't think anyone else in our team could have scored that goal at that point in the match. Harper's fitness is incredible.

Just like to say that three of the players who have taken a lot of stick in the last few weeks all had very good games.

Harper: Enough said (I thought the stick he had been receiving was very unfair/unjustified anyway).

Brynjar: Add to his profile - now not only a very effective impact player when brought on for the last 20-30 minutes but also very clearly a player for the really big games. Now all he's got to do is perform as well against the likes of Middlesbrough and Birmingham as he does against United and Liverpool.

USA: Still shows a bit too much affection for his goal-line, whilst his distribution is still questionable at times. However, produced a couple of very good saves and clearly grew in confidence as the game wore on.

I agree with all your comments.

Brynjar is an enigma. He also had a very good game against Arsenal as well. He really does seem to perform in the big games - if only he could do it every week.

I really wish USA could distribute - he would be a great keeper if only he could and we would concede less goals.

The first tackle was stupid, more than half the time that would have been given regardless of whether he got the ball a little first. He was caught nowhere for their goal as well. Not up to his usual standard and has looked a little ropey recently. Least good performance from a Reading player yesterday. Doesn't mean he didn't play ok overall though.

I do find it amazing that there are posters on here who can find something to moan about on a day we beat Liverpool FC, one of the truly great clubs and one of the biggest. Happy as anyone else. Just not capable of pretending everything is wonderful and all played flawlessly when they didn't.

And as far as I'm concerned that was the best result in our history. The only ways to better that are:

Beat Man U @ home in the league
Beat Liverpool/Arsenal/Man U away
Win the FA cup
The game that wins us the top flight
Win a major Euro competition.

We just beat Liverpool, the greatest ever British team, at the fifth time of asking, despite being, according to so many, footballing no marks.
