Stranded Another Quinn goal, V Bournemouth. Ball comes to him ten yards or so into their half. Bouncing ball, Quinn looks up sees the keeper well off his line and unleashes a dipping volley to complete his hat-trick.

***Pedant Mode On***

Jimmy Quinn never scored a hat-trick for Reading. The scorers in that game were Quinn twice (a near post header and said dipping volley) and Micky Gooding (a first time smashed volley from a corner, another goal that nobody has mentioned even though I thought it was more spectacular than Quinny's!!)

***Pedant Mode Off***

Good spot. Think Quinny went through a spell that season where he scored two goals in four or five consecutive games.

[statto]BTW, the 6-4 win at Exeter in 93/94 remains the only game in FL history where five different players scored two goals each in the same game.[/statto]

Correct on both counts, Quinny scored 10 goals in October alone that season.

Trever Senior 2nd goal against Colchester 1st round league cup tie. Sweet left foot volley from the edge of the box flew in the top corner.

My bad, I remember it being the 3rd of the game and my memory has it as a hat-trick goal.

Readingfc50 Cant remember it that well. But i do remember Sammy Igoes goal against Bury in a 4-1 win

http://www.royals.org/matdoc/140401.html

Also Conveys against Burnley deserves a mention

Too right, an absolute corker.

A couple of my personal favourites that haven't been mentioned -

1) Cureton away at Notts County. A thirty year screamer in a frenetic start that saw us go 4-1 up - also included a decent goal by Alex Smith if anyone can recall his otherwise fairly unmemerable Reading career.

2) Forster away at Sheffield United. Not the one from long distance but his 2nd from the previous sesson. We're 2-1 up late in the game, we hit them on the break with Tyson absolutely tearing down the left flank before firing in a cross to Forster, who crashed it home at the near post. From one end to the other in about 7 seconds. Capped a superb performance.

3) Kitson at home to West Ham. Corner falls to Kitson in the box, he launches the ball into the top corner on the half-volley. Ok, not the greatest goal of all but it was ferociously struck and completely unstoppable. Plus it confirmed our first victory of Padew's West Ham...

Lambert against Forest at home (used in the Sky credits for the rest of the season)

or

Forster away to Sheffield Utd ('only one player on the pitch who could have done that' - Colin)

Tacano He won't go down as one of Reading's best midfielders, but Keith Jones scored a cracker in a pre-season friendly against Southampton. On the edge of the Saints' area, he controlled then volleyed in a ball that had been cleared from a corner. Great stuff.

It was actually even better than you describe because he actually hit it first time on the volley from more like 25 yards. And for the record, I rated Keith Jones. He was our Division 2 Makalele - break up play, lay it simple. And he did it effectively.

My bad. I actually thought that at first, but didn't trust my memory, and hey, he was decent but no goalscorer.

For Notts County?

Grimsby Own goal was by him.

Oh, right, for some reason I was thinking of the own goal by a Notts County defender, who headed the ball back to his keeper. Only that the keeper wasn't where the defender thought he was and the ball sailed over him into the net.

Now thinking about it, wasn't the County defender's surname Richardson or something?

Ian Richardson. Think he may of scored more than once against us as well!

RobRoyal 2) Forster away at Sheffield United. Not the one from long distance but his 2nd from the previous sesson. Any goal that involves floyd_streete running down the stairs to celebrate with the team only to realise he's in the top tier is worthy of a mention

The Colonel Martin Hicks away at Palace in about 86 or 87(?). We won three 3-1. Colin Bailie got sent off.

Whenever Hicks normally connected with the ball it came down with snow on! On this occasion though he connected sweetly from 35 yards out and it sailed into the top corner.

Also, Hickseys 30 yard free kick against Chelsea in the League Cup,remember thinking this is going to end up at Reading West station but it barely got off the ground and straight in.Stunning!!

Obviously, the Friday goal but a couple that haven't been mentioned:

Trevor Morley - overhead kick from the edge of the box at Elm Park V Norwich.

Michael Gilkes - away to southend, dribbled past 6-7 defenders before slotting

That goal sticks in my memory for a number of reasons, not least was watching it again on TV and seeing that the ball, in flight, seemed to be stationary. Hicksy had obviously caught it so well that there was no spin on it at all.

Gilksies goal in the same game from Deano's through ball was also a bit special.

Yeah that was Ian Richardson at the Madejski for Notts... Cracking own goal!!

Speaking of Notts - anyone remember Ricky Newman's hit from 35 years at Meadow Lane? Must have been around 1999? Cracking goal. I'm a big believer in how good goals are being magnified by what mood you're in... A 4 hour trip to Nottingham with stinking traffic and missed the kick off had me in a very bad mood, so Ricky's is one I particularly enjoyed!

Anyone remember Billy Whitehurst's screamer against Bolton (I think) at Elm Park? Volleyed it over a stranded keeper from inside the centre-circle.

Yes, the 3-3 home draw against Nottingham Forest. That same game, I missed the Van Hoojink free kick that went in cos I was gawping at a girl nearby.

Good shout. Trevor Sinclair scored an overhead kick that season in the FA Cup that everybody was raving about. Morley's was so much better but nobody batted an eyelid at it. Wish I was there to see it. One of the few home games I missed that season.

MR Royal Ricky Newman's hit from 35 years at Meadow Lane

Another good shout, and another great goal. Wish I was there to see it.

Great night. Especially when Chelsea unlocked the chain and stormed through the gate at the back of the South Bank.
