In an ideal world it'll get us 7th and relegate them. Wouldn't that be nice!

Y21_Royal There's no way Sir Steve will let us finish higher 8th. I'm certain he'll field a v experimental team against Watford and he'll go all out to avoid Europe.

Rubbish,I dont believe he dont want Europe, hes just playing it down.Harry is saying the same things at Pompy, one of us is going to do it and it looks like us.We might not be ready but...

I don't think there is a 'v experimental' team he could chose. He's shown that we have a really tight squad and that pretty much whichever 11 you pick they can compete. Short of putting Marcus up front, Hunt in goal and Ron Grant in centre midfield I don't think selection will be relevant.

Harry Redknapp If I had to pick the three to do it, I'd say Bolton, Everton and Reading. Reading have the easiest run-in. They've got Newcastle and Watford at home next. If they win those two, it's going to make it very difficult for us. Reading's win at Bolton was massive. Bolton and Everton have harder run-ins than Reading. Both of them have to go to Chelsea, and Everton have got Manchester United at home. But they've both got four points more than us. Spurs have the next best chance, with a game in hand. Then it's us.

I see no reason as to why we can't get 9 points from our last 3 games.

I have this feeling, that in true RFC style, we will go into the Blackburn match with a slight chance of Europe needing to win and result to go our way, however we will probably lose that game and the results won't go our way either (not that it would matter)

All in all, it will be very similar to the game when we lost 3-1 at Wigan a couple of seasons back.

I think we'll get between 4 and 6.

what a load of rubbish, i'm sure he wants us to finish as high as possible. he might not want us to get into europe just yet but i can't see him swapping the team around too much. don't the rules state a team has to field it's strongest possible side anyway?

i agree although he is going to need to experiment to find a replacement for sidwell other than any new signing we get

Considering Europe - I see Portsmouth are beating Liverpool 2-0 - of course Liverpool are playing a weakened team - should Rafa be reprimanded for this blatant focusing on the Champion's league?

No, the FA won't sanction any team doing this, it happens a lot at this level.
We've done it, and most teams have done it.

It's accepted by the FA and the teams alike that this happens.

After the results today it's gonna be a real fight to get 7th. We're now down to ninth but we still have those two home games - things will look good if we beat Newcastle on mon though...

Interestingly, both ninth and fifth seem more likely after today's results. If we win on Monday it's desperately tight between all five teams.

Not likely, basically.

Finishing 7th is a massive task, let alone 5th!

Yes it's a really tight race - if we win on mon and Blackburn beat Spurs there are 5 teams up for three places. Strangely enough if we beat Newcastle say 2-0 our goal difference isn't that much worse than Everton's anymore.

Don't really fancy our chances of finishing 7th, never mind 5th.

Everton will be anxious looking at their remaining fixtures, but apart from that bad results for us today in terms of UEFA Cup qualification. Bolton will be pleased with a point, I didn't expect Pompey to beat Liverpool (at least not until I saw Liverpool's line-up today) and I thought that Boro's decent home form would deny Spurs all three points.

Blackburn are good at home and beat us with plenty to spare at the Madj so I don't fancy us getting much there. Newcastle at home is difficult to call, Watford I'd be disappointed if we didn't beat them now. A conservative estimate from Floyd is 4 points from these 3 games which I don't think will be enough for european football. It should however be good enough for a splendid top half finish and it also means I won't have to save for expensive overseas trips next season
