Backroom contracts stall

Downes and Dillon deals on hold

Kevin Dillon and Wally Downes remain confident they will soon put pen to paper on new contracts despite the fact that early negotiations have stalled.

Steve Coppell’s first-team coaches have been offered two-year extensions to run alongside the manager’s.

But the club’s opening offer has been rejected by Downes, while Dillon has yet to open his letter from the club.

Downes, who is attracting interest from Premiership rivals Portsmouth, said: “I have had a contract offer and there is still a lot to work out, but I am hoping we can continue discussions and everything will come together. The club wants to keep us.â€

He probably wants the clause about not being allowed to hit Neil Warnock removed.

Not really a story is it, I mean in their profession they're very unlikely to sign the first deal offered.

And Dillon said last week he wasn;t bothered about opening the offer as he knows it will all be sorted....

Coppell only signed a 2 year deal so his team had a bit more security, they will all know what the final package will be I'm sure !

Not for us, aside from Sidwell, we don't really go for extended contract negociations.

There's still a difference between extended negotiations and signing the first deal offered.

Yeah, but it's not good to hear this in the press, and it's not something that we're known for.

I'll probably get Dodded for this but there's a report on the BBC website that Wally Downes could be going to Portsmouth in the summer as first team coach, to replace Tony Adams.
