can we make 5th?

by Chaney » 21 Apr 2007 18:39

At the risk of making myself extremely unpopular with RFC management I think we are in with a big shout to finish as high as 5th, for a club our size to finish above every other team except the big 4 it would go down as the biggest achievement in our our history and it would almost certainly give SC the manager of the year award that he so richly deserves.
next week our games is Monday so in effect we will know just what we need to do, the Everton are at home to Man utd and Bolton have an easy away trip to Chelsea.
things will look alot clearer at 10pm next Monday night

STEADY! 17th would do me, and 7th would make me wet myself!

5th and I will implode.

Whatever happened to the old Div 4 team - Martin James, Peter Harman et al !?!?! God I miss the old days! NOT!

We can, yes, but in fact I think our most likely finishing position is 7th (assuming we go all out for every game). Everton and Tottenham to come in ahead. Bolton to fall to 8th after getting done by Chelsea next week.

Well Bolton and Tottenham have inferior goal differences that with onbly three games left are to far of ours to haul back.

And if you look at the run in's now we have easier (on paper) fixtures than Everton, Bolton, Tottenham and Pompey.

We'll finish in 8th place behind Everton, missing out on a UEFA Cup spot to them on goal difference. Blackburn to take the Intertoto spot (that we've turned down) ahead of Portsmouth. You heard it here first.

There's no way Sir Steve will let us finish higher 8th. I'm certain he'll field a v experimental team against Watford and he'll go all out to avoid Europe.

M4 Junction 11 Lowest possible finish 14th - http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/PR/runin.html :D

That is truly amazing given we still have 3 games to go. I wonder what odds you could have got for that at the start of the season?

what a load of rubbish, i'm sure he wants us to finish as high as possible. he might not want us to get into europe just yet but i can't see him swapping the team around too much. don't the rules state a team has to field it's strongest possible side anyway?

Now 13th after Boro's draw. My pre-season prediction, incidentally, which I'll be happy to see falsified within the week.

No.

And Y21_Royal is right. Coppell and Co. have made it perfectly clear that they don't want the extra games and it would have a detrimental on the squad, given the 6 or so additional first-teamers that would be required to compete on the European front.

Everyone knows Coppell takes one game at a time and doesn't look at the table so he probably hasn't even noticed ;)

He's already changing the team around! No Harper today for the first time this season, no Sidwell last week, Seol returning to the side, De La Cruz staying in ahead of Halford. I think Coppell is genuinely against us reaching Europe.

There is no rule regarding the strength of your team. How else would Utd, Arsenal get away with our cup teams? In a game of no consequence, which Watford will be (assuming we aren't going all out for Europe of course) I think a lot of fringe players will get their chance.

I'm not saying he wants us to lose but I really don't think he wants us in Europe, hence not entering the Intertoto

I think 2 wins will be enough for a place in Europe.
