DLC & Oster considering future

by Top Flight » 03 Apr 2007 13:33

Both De La Cruz and Johnny Oster are considering their futures with the club.

Personally I don't want to see either of them leave!

If John Oster goes to Wolves then there is no doubt in my mind that they will have come off much better in the swapping of wide players with us stuffing £1.5 Million in their wallets for Seol despite them having to wait a year for Oster to go the other way.

Oster is better than Seol and it would be shame to lose him to Wolves.

Also right now DLC is better than Halford at RB in the Prem. Halford needs a year to learn Prem football.

I hope Coppell will try and hold on to Oster and DLC. I'd rather Seol went back to Wolves than Oster go over there.

And we need DLC. He is proving to be quality cover for Murts. He was so strong and solid at Old Trafford in the Cup match. DLC is a tough and experienced Prem RB.

Simple fact is both are at stages of their career where they want/need to be playing regular first team football.

If they can see they will get that here, they will stay. If not - which is more likely - they will leave and we will find replacements.

I'd would rather Seol stayed.

I would, the boy'll come good - he did earlier this season.

Seol is a far better player than Oster. DLC did a job for us, as did Oster and so I wish them well in seeking out a club that enables them to get first team football. It's the least they both deserve should it happen

I don't blame Oster for wanting out now. Earlier in the season he had no complaints, but Hunt has been fcuking awfull for the last 5 or 6 games and yet Oster doesn't get a league start, even though he's looked quality when coming off the bench.

If he gets a run in the side now, I think he'll stay.

Oster does deserve a run of starts.

The source is get reading

— John Oster is again attracting interest from Championship side Wolves. The Royals winger has admitted he may be tempted to leave the club in the summer, having failed to nail down a regular spot for the second successive season.

And there is that comment regarding Oster in the Post in Hahnemann story about why he had to come off the pitch half time against Spurs.

Oster warrants a place in front of Hunt based on recent performances and he's a good back-up to have. I very much doubt we'd miss De La Cruz if he was to go at the end of the season with Halford and Murts already two quality right backs.

Halford is not yet proven in the Premiership.

Until such time as he is, I think we need the cover of DLC. Right now, in my opinion only Murts and DLC have proven themselves as good calibre RBs at Prem level.

I don't think Gunnarsson is a great back up at RB even though he can do a job from time to time if he has to.

I'd like De La to stay. Whats the point in joining a Championship side or a rubbish team like Birmingham or Derby or Sunderland or PNE. Whoever comes up?

Catch 22 though surely.

If Halford needs to prove himself at this level, how can he do that with two players ahead of him. You can only learn so much about someone in reserve football and training.

You have to trust in a players ability and having him as second choice RB next season makes sense. If you don't play him, he can never prove himself.

I think you're right, Stranded. Halford needs to be Murty's understudy and Murty is not getting any younger, so this is an ideal opportunity for him to gradually replace Murty.

I won't be sad to see DLC go. He won't get any better at his age and in Halford I think we have a young prospect who is already capable of playing just as well as DLC (his display at Spurs wasn't perfect but it was just as good, if not better than DLC against West Ham, Utd at home, Birmingham, and certainly Arsenal).

Oster has served us well and added a bit of depth and versatility and I wouldn't blame him for wanting to move on, in fact I'd probably be a bit worried if he wasn't considering it.

Above all though we have to keep improving our side, and our squad, to maintain our position and prospects in the Premiership. In order to do that Coppell will undoubtedly have to move players on. Those players that aren't really getting into his side and don't have time on their side are the ones that are most likely to go and hopefully be replaced by better players as we continue our growth. This may prove to be Coppell's biggest test, evolving the promotion winning side into a sustainable Premiership side won't be easy.

Halford is not yet proven in the Premiership.

Everyone keeps saying this and i do agree but pretty much our entire squad were not proven in top flight until the start of the season and they have all settled in nicely

Oster and DLC are good but its nice to think they are hungry and want to play football rather then just thinking of sitting in a bench for money, put yourself in their shoes

I'd like them both to stay but I don't think we should stand in their way if they want to leave. Oyster's not gonna get in the Wales set up if he's on the bench here and De la Cruz only has a couple of full seasons left in him. For their own careers it would probs be better for them to go.

Despite this if they want to stay they both can still have important roles to play in the next couple of years at Reading Football Club...

agree - he has looked great when he has come off the bench and had some great games this season, def deserves to start, even if it is on the left in place of Hunty (who hasnt been playing great recently). Def a better back-up than Seol and dont want him to leave, although can understand why.

DLC - has played well when needed to be called upto and its great to see that he wants to play rather than sit on the bench.

And SSC knows what he's doing, he's probably got a master plan involving Murts and Halford...and probably Oster as well.

Wouldn't like to see Oster go, but less bothered about DLC. Not the strongest player defensively...
