READING

Fixtures
9th 31 points
Highest achievable after Saturday's matches: 7th
Lowest could fall: 12th
1. Won two and drawn one of their last three in all competitions.

2. Lost one of the last five in League and Cup (3-2, away to Manchester United on 30 December).

3. Scored 31 goals, conceded 31 and picked up 31 points so far in this Premiership campaign.

4. Won the last two at home, scoring nine goals (six against West Ham in the League and three against Burnley in the FA Cup).

5. The eclipse of the Hammers is Reading's only victory in eight League outings.

6. Only Premiership games involving Manchester United have generated more goals, that those involving Reading. The Red Devils have an aggregate of 68 (52 for, 16 against), Reading have 62 (31 for, 31 against).

7. Boast a 50% win rate in League games under Steve Coppell (won 75 of 150).

8. Drawn only one home League game this season (1-1 with Manchester United on 23 September).

9. The next four Premiership fixtures take in a home match against Wigan, a visit to Manchester City, a clash with Aston Villa at the Madejski and a long journey to Middlesbrough.

It's nailed on then!

A 2-1 win for the Royals with Lita getting the first.

They do something to the page to hinder cut and paste - but work it out from this...

The Royals have an excellent recent record against Sheffield United, and are unbeaten in the last nine games against Neil Warnock's side.

Our last defeat was a 2-0 home reverse in December 2002, and since then we have won seven and drawn two against the Bramall Lane outfit.

In that time we have beaten them in the Carling Cup, Championship and Premiership.

Stats by Andrew Dagnall
Andrew Dagnall of Stats On Sport supplies our match programme with a number of stats, and they make very interesting reading for this game:

- All of Reading's wins at Madejski Stadium this season have come against clubs who failed to win their previous away game - as the Blades did

- Reading have scored more than twice as many goals in the first half than the second - comfortably the highest ratio in the Premiership this season. In fact, only the Royals, Spurs and Aston Villa have scored more before the interval than after it.

- Teams who have won away earlier in the season have a tremendous success rate in the return fixture at home. This season the record stands at eight wins and four draws, and since the start of 04/05 the home team averages a points per game of 2.30 - for reference the combined home PPG of Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool in that time is 2.34. Also worth noting is that Reading's only other game in this scenario was their last fixture against West Ham!

- Sheffield United are one of two clubs who have yet to win by more than a single goal, and one of only three who are yet to score more than twice in a game in the league this season

- United have lost four of their five games this season following a draw.

The trend of us doing them over has to end sooner or later. I can see it being this game.

Hope we dick them though.

I still love the way the SMS service advert on the right has the goalscorers Goater and Sonko on it - I doubt they'll ever update it
