Scott Golbourne

by higher » 12 Jan 2007 12:50

So Scott Golbourne has gone back to Wycombe on loan until the end of the season. It seems he is eligible for their Carling cup replay at Stamford Bridge. He looked an able deputy v Burnley presumable he could be recalled should a need arise?
At least it gives us a mild interest in the Carling cup and is first team experience of a kind for what looks to be a goodun for the future.
<--3 votes for MOTM v Burnley

Looks a good prospect for the future. The loan should help him improve so good luck to him.

Makes sense. Guaranteed games there and is liked by Wycombe.

Guess that means Shorey will play in the next round of the FA cup then.

I'm told, from a Wycombe source, that there is no call back even if Shorey gets injured.

Wouldn't be that silly, would we? We got away with Hunty at left back last year, it would worry me a lot more this season though....

Hopefully reliable Nicky Shorey will cruise through the rest of our premiership games unscathed but should he be crocked it could mean some unnecessary shuffling of the pack and potentially risk points as well as the prospect of the player gaining valuable experience for us!!
I appreciate Wycombe want to have have Scotty secured for their promotion push but yup big hmmmm here if no call back clause option.
I know were nice but not that nice!!

I'm not sure Coppell was that impressed with Golbourne against Burnley (seem to recall a couple of post match comments) and so maybe be feels he's progress will be better served by the loan because he's not ready for the first team yet.

He certainly looked a little naive when defending at times. With Convey returning to fitness Coppell probably sees Hunt/Convey as better back up to Shorey than Golbourne.

I'd still be surprised if we don't have some recall option though, you never know how many injuries we might get.

Golbourne looks like he has the raw attributes to be a success, although he still lacks the experience to make our first team and he made a few mistakes on Tuesday even though I was impressed by him overall. Good move for the player and RFC in the long run as I don't think he's ready to step in for Shorey just yet.

What I liked about him on Tuesday was his confidence and his unwillingness to hide when things weren't going for him: he always looked for the ball. Peach of a cross too for Sodje's goal: he gambled in the first place on the lob (from Convey?) towards the goal-line coming off for him and then the cross itself was excellent - hard, in the right place and hit at a fair pace. I think his distribution was poor (which I think was Copp's comment that Hoop Blah referred to) and certainly his passing was a bit wayward at times but this is a question also of getting competitive games in (rather than in the reserves).

Hopefully he sees it as a chance to work on these aspects of his game and to improve, and not a sign that he's not going to make it here.

I always thought if there was no money involved in the deal then the player could be recalled, but if money is involved then the option of recalling the player doesnt exist?
very possibly wrong though.

I see Sky have managed to mispell his name and get a story headline out of it....

Wycombe strike Gold deal

Wycombe have signed Reading's Scott Goldbourne.

The defender has already spent time on loan at Adams Park this term and he has now returned on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old will also be eligible to feature in Wycombe's Carling Cup semi-final second leg at Chelsea.

Goldbourne goes straight into Paul Lambert's squad for their clash with Chester on Saturday.

Goldbourne takes the 18 squad number which is vacated by Jonny Dixon, who has signed for Conference side Aldershot for a nominal fee

I have a degree of sympathy for Scott Golbourne. He left Bristol City about a year ago, from league one, only to play most of this season in league 2. I believe he had started to play regularly for City at the time he left too

I know the quality of coaching here is higher than at league one, and doubtless he will have learned from his time with Reading, and he's probably on slightly more money now than he was with City, but he's playing a lower standard of football, and let's face it, unless Shorey moves on or gets injured, he aint going to break into our first team anytime soon
