Spoke to an eye surgeon at RBH couple of years back about this and he explained to me what happens when it goes wrong and how laser eye surgery companies skew the success rate figures so people believe they are better than they are (as long as sight is improved they can add it to the success figure, f**k what else happens to you). He said in the last 10 years his job has changed from dealing with eye injuries to purely dealing with laser eye surgery gone wrong.

My eyesite is very bad, even after the chat with this guy I am still tempted

Well I've not heard of any problems. If there were genuine horror stories then they'd soon make the national press. Other companies skew their figures but Optimax is transparent. I'd love to know which eye surgeon told you that, that's total bollox . I'm a nurse, I'm not on a commission or anything and it's my professional responsibilty to be the patient's advocate so I would never recommend anything I didn't have faith in.

I know someone who had this done 10 years ago and now needs glasses for driving as eye sight got worse again.

Is this rare or the norm?

10 years later, to need glasses for driving isn't unusual. It's best to have a stable prescription to start with. It doesn't mean you'd never need reading glasses either as that happens with age and is due to rigidity of the eye muscles which attach to the lens. Laser reshapes the cornea for long sight/short sight. Knowing my luck, at my age, I'll need reading glasses in a few years time but that doesn't bother me. i want to have some on a bit of cord around my neck.
