Shaun Cummings to leave?

Out-of-favour Reading right-back Shaun Cummings is attracting interest from Brighton and Hove Albion.

It is understood that the League One side are interested in the former Chelsea trainee who has found life hard since switching to Madejski Stadium on transfer deadline day in August for £300,000.

Royals are desperate to sign Stoke City defender Andy Griffin and manager Brian McDermott even played left-footed midfielder Jay Tabb and Brynjar Gunnarsson out of position ahead of the 21-year-old before Griffin signed on loan in January.

Cummings played four games for Championship runners-up West Brom at the start of last season and if Griffin was to sign he could even find himself behind Academy graduate Julian Kelly in the pecking order.

I think a season long loan would be good for both parties.

I think Cummins didn't really get the support from the winger he needed.

^ this. West Brom thought enougb of him to want him before we got him, so he must have something about him. He needs chance!

Kebe's impact on the team > Cummings'

We need a more experienced older head like Griffin behind Kebe to get the best out of him IMO - as we've seen this past 6 months as opposed to before when you had the likes of Rosenior and Cummings behind him

West Brom away i don't think Kebe tracked back once-Cummings was run ragged by Thomas as he was constantly left one on one. A year in the lower leagues could do him the world of good. People were writing Kebe off before the last 6 months. Its taken him nearly 2 years to get to the form of the last 6 months

Which is why it's imperative to have an experienced right back with better positioning and awareness, allows Kebe to get away with that freedom more often

Cummings has to be up there with Sean Evers and Emerse Fae as one of our worst signings, maybe all is not lost as he appeared to get some sort of form for the reserves at the end of the season but if we do get Griffin i would just cut our losses on him and have Kelly as our backup. Kebe is never going to be a player that chases back and harries, his attacking play is far too important for that. Having someone equally as attack minded/defensivly lacking at RB creates that worrying imbalance.

Watched him play for the reserves at City last season and he hardly touched the ball. Playing with kids, against kids.

If it frees up money to get Kish in it's a no brainer.

The fact WBA didn't even try and stop him leaving when they had him on loan says it all.3

Think many have been a bit harsh on him. He clearly lost all confidence. A 6 or 12 month loan to Brighton will be make or break for him really. He will eitehr fail or come back a better player.

Yeah, definitely, I mean, Cummings isn't captain of the reserves or anything... :|

It took Kebe how long to come good? Cummings has been with us how long now? I think it's fair to say Kebe took a long time to come good, and Cummings should also be given the same chance.

Yeah but Kebe came good the same time we got Griffin in. Not a coincidence imo.

How many games was that then?

Pretty sure the answer is one or two. Kelly is much better and that's not sayin much for Kelly.

Think Cummings has more potential than Kelly. But I haven't seen Kelly in quite a while.Maybe he's come on well.

Still think it's worth keeping both of them as our full back cover - assume Armstrong is finished and get in a right back.

Salford Royal SELL! SELL! SELL!

Yeah apparently he's still worth around £225,000* so i'd say let's get rid now before it goes down any more!

To be fair he's probably not AS bad as we all like to make out but... he's still not very good.

(*although the same website claims that alex pearce is worth £1.5m while the sig is only worth just over a million... transfermarkt.co.uk)

Brighton are no longer interested as they have signed another defender according to the local Argus rag.
