SPACULATION - Peter Crouch

by Tommio » 11 Aug 2013 11:47

At 6ft 7 he is just what we need, whether he will be willing to drop to the championship is our only problem.

1) You need to seriously improve the quality of your material.
2) At 6'7" he's truely awful in the air. And given he's built like a pair of stilts, he's also not good at using strength to hold the ball up.

Damn good player who would do well with the style we're now moving toward. If it was possible I'd go for it but as this is just idle speculation it's utterly irrelevant

He would be an excellent signing for any Championship club.

Siiiiick touch, cracking volleys, overhead kicks, and a robot celebration (for when he scores the winner in the play off final) 8) 8) 8)

SIGN HIM UP!

I think Crouch is a likely sort of McDermott signing.

We are very one dimensional with Vydra, Blackman, McCleary, John, and haven't scored from about 160 corners. (And that was our 4th choice CB). We need to be able to mix it up and have a player with a bit of nous and experience with their back to goal in the box.

Crouchie meanwhile has been unused in almost every PL game and at 34, going on 35, must know his top flight days are over. He doesn't really fit into the new Stoke style either.

That said he has played a few league cup games and has been on the bench every game, so must be fit and injury free, so I reckon he could get a couple more seasons in the Championship if he wanted.

Shit in the air but surprisingly good with the ball at his feet for someone who's 6ft 7" and I think he'd have a field day in the Championship.

A cheeky loan deal maybe otherwise WCBAFMP

Please! No more loan deals, we already have too many.
Besides, if his missus is in the stands watching him, I will miss all the football watching her!

Scored the most headers in the premier league, how does that make him shit in the air?

The same way that Mikhail Antonio was 'out of his depth in the Championship'! (ergo - it is wrong)

Nah, Antonio was dreadful when he played for us in the Championship and would certainly have been out of his depth in the Premier League.

Crouch being bad in the air is just cliché + confirmation bias.

It's been a common criticism of him throughout his career that for his height, he is actually quite poor in the air. You watch him and it's almost as if he's taller just standing there than when he jumps for the ball. He has comparatively poor technique.

Conversely, he is much more comfortable with the ball played into his feet and actually has very good footwork, particulalrly for someone of his size. It's almost as if teams have a compulsion to bang high balls into him because of his height when he's far more comfortable with balls into bis feet.

For the record, I like Crouch, he's much maligned and a lot better player than he's really been given due credit for.

Crouch would be incredible, but way out of our league.

People who would pass on him are living on a different planet.

He can't jump and he certainly was shit in the air originally. Once he worked out he only had to lean he got better.

No way this seems plausible.

He'd fit in well at Reading then.
