SPECULATION - Harry Kewell?

by moonwalklikebas » 24 Jun 2012 17:00

Got a be a good shout for £0. Played 25 games in A league last season 4 assists and scoring 8. Seems to fit the reading mould, good family man, knows what he is capable of at 33. and at 33 still got 2 good seasons in him.

He was kinda broken last time he played in Europe. The A League is very different.

Who knows, I wrote off Roberts and he's one of our very best players now, but I don't think Kewell would be ahead of McAnuff, he'd probably want quite a bit and he has serious injury problems.

He's coming back because his partner is ill. Will be wanting a team local to where he's settled, so will be up north. Not a chance, even if we wanted him.

He really struggled in what is a very mediocre league, with a couple of exceptions most of the teams in Australia would struggle in League 2. There is a reason that Melbourne Victory let him go.
Sad that I am saying this about an Australian great, but no.

He's a bit busy driving Nicky Shorey to West Ham for a medical :D .

I must admit I had completely lost track of Kewell, I thought he was still in Turkey. I can't see this one, apart from the domestic issues, he was shot before he left Liverpool so you can only presume that age has not improved things. Just can't see this being a viable option, particularly as we seem to be focussing more on quality now. It does seem that we don't have to look in the 'bargain bins' anymore, although having said that our one definite signing and one strongly rumoured signing this summer are both free transfers!!!!

They let him go for family reasons, not football reasons, so that's quite a good reason to let him go....

I kind of follow A League Australian football because I live here. There were huge complications when he signed for Melbourne Victory - largely to him being a prima donna and his agent being an arsehole. I really, really don't think he would be Brian's kind of signing due to his personality. He did well in the A League but if you watch A League that counts for nothing really.

Admittedly, I did not know that, I thought that he had merely signed a 1 year contract when he got here and they didn't want to extend it.
However I stand by what I said in that he's far from good enough for us these days

Hes not that bad!

If I remember when he had a huge injury hit spell at Liverpool he was very good in the year that they won the Fa cup against West Ham.

Would be useful from the bench maybe if we were chasing a goal in the last 20 mins.

More useful than Hunt or ALF or even Roberts?

Assuming we get Pog - we don't need a player like Fowler - we're trying to get on the UP here - much as I liked Kewell, he's had it really. A championship or league one side would suit him now.
