southbank1871 Fraudulent? Lol.

That's your response?

Just checking whether you might have hit send by mistake or whether it genuinely is that devoid of value or acumen.

sandman Don't promise it then. They build up the expectations of the fans, "6/7 signings" for instance. Can't complain when it's a problem of their own making.

Was it cast iron promise, written in blood?

You're a bit like a child. "But you promised, you said, you said, you said, you said!!!"

I'm not! I was prepared that it wouldn't happen hence voting none on the how many players will we sign thread. I know perfectly well that that is mostly hyperbole, I think we all do by now. What I'm saying is that I can understand why some fans would be questioning them on it and that they've brought that on themselves. You're like a child with their fingers in their ears going "la la la I can't hear you".

We appear to have completely different viewpoints, so I'm not sure how much more time I should waste on this godforsaken portal. Without knowing the ins and outs of any negotiations, it's impossible for any of us to know really, I just find it sad that many Reading fans appear to now throw tantrums when we don't spend a load of cash. Yes I'm disappointed that we haven't brought in a new striker, but I'm not going to cry about it and I believe that the club will have attempted to bring someone in.

With the squad we currently have, I believe it should still be capable of getting in at least the top six.

Extended-Phenotype "held to ransom" or in Direct English "pay what the other club wants for their player".

Bale's ability is not worth 85m. To Spurs however, anything less than that and they would rather keep the player. Sometimes you have to pay over the odds to get what you need. Frugality Vs Ambition. If we are still a frugal club, don't pretend to be otherwise.

This wasn't an exercise in splashing the cash, this was a window in which to secure the players we very much need, to match the expectations of fans, which have been raised by the promises made by the club.

It's a poor show no matter how anyone tries to justify it.

+1

its the fact that the club has promised so much that irritates most people

Everyone talking of how we need a new striker, I think a cb is priority. We have one senior back up in such a key position. Our striking options have a little more depth alf, pog, blackmen, roberts (if ever fit) Samuel, uguwu (sp). I no there not all provern but can fill the position well enough. I don't see our young cb's quite doing the same job, hector is the only one with league experience and I don't no if he can be recalled from his loan. Lets see who's not named in the pl teams 25 and see who we can get on loan.

So we started the summer under the assumption that Adkins had funds to improve the squad, we want to win the league with 100+goals 21 clean sheets etc.

Players from last season were released, reducing the wage bill. We bring in 3 top players on good wages, not much spent on the actual transfers.

No more players arrive even though we are crying out for a forward. Adkins said he wants to sign 2 more players...

We then lose 2 more players bringing in 5m and reducing the wage bill again...We are now clearly in need for a forward, a centre half and potentially some more creativity in the midfield..

We sign nobody. :|

Questions have to be asked. The current squad could get us into the Top 6.. But automatic looks to be unrealistic. The club made us believe the objective was to win the league

In shock to be honest

But
Not is shock but very very disappointed. I guess we just needed to unload the Pog before signing anyone else.

Reading Fans!

We may not have signed a striker or added any further quality to the squad this deadline.
I entreat you, however, to raise your eyes to the heavens and give heartfelt thanks to the
god of medium-sized football clubs that we did not re-sign Stephen Hunt.

Here endeth the lesson.

Amen
