zummerset Itsn't that the point RL, JM has done his bit and probably isn't as in love with the club now and wants someone else to take this on. I think he is a bit tired and thinking about a back seat rather than driving forward now and I don't blame him one little bit.

The man with the big hair is in his 60s and probably looking forward to retirement - AND GOOD LUCK TO HIM.

I had big hair in the sixties and we had better issues to protest against, and its 1 2 3 what are we fighting for

Dirk Gently
(.)Boobies(.)
Dirk Gently Would you buy a used football club from a mate of yours? It can only end in tears!

Would you buy a business off a friend? Well yes, yes you would. Especially when you know how well ran it is. In fact, you'd gain a greater insight into what you were purchasing than any old Tom, Dirk or Harry.

I'll re-phrase the question, then.

Would you sell a used football club to a mate of yours?

Rather than a brand new one? Why wouldn't JM sell to a so called friend? If the football club is in as good a shape as he claims it is, I can't see why he wouldn't sell to Sullivan if he knew he would be good for the club.

The Rouge How 'deep' are Sullivan's pockets?

According to the 2009 Times richlist, Sullivan is valued at £450M whilst JM is currently valued at £250M, which interestingly according to the Times is a £150M decrease against his reported 2008 figure of £400M, - things may not be so good at the moment in JM's empire....

Until one knew what the words "Newcastle" and "Reading" in the above sentence actually constituted it would seem naive to comment.

Depends on the debt situation with Newcatle. If it £100m plus you have to take on the debt then it is not such a good deal, plus you are saddled with their very high running costs which will eat up more money.

With us you pay £80m and you get a debt free club with a fairly low cost base.

I would take a guess that Ashley has put far more of his money into Newcastle in the few years he has been running it than Madejski has over his many years owning RFC.

Newcastle is a money pit.

Plus of course, with Newcastle you'd be saddled with a bunch of moronic supporters with unrealsitic ambitions for the club.... ah, ermm....

Barry the bird boggler The Chronicle is suggesting there could also be interest from David Sullivan....

Wonderful. David Sullivan is a proper c*nt, and that's pretty depressing news.

Still, at least he's not an arab, eh?

Well, the football clubs, obviously, though on a thread about the takeover of Reading FC, you could be forgiven for thinking I meant the Vue Cinema.

I like that!

But I'm sure you understand what I was getting at... similar to what Wycombe Royal posted at the same time. What would the buyer get / be saddled with for the £80m / £100m...?

I doubt that 100 million includes any of Newcastles debts, the true cost of taking on that club would be much higher.

Yes thats right. I read in the Mail a few weeks back that the reason why several prospective Newcastle buyers have dropped out is that on top of the £100m that Ashley is asking to be paid for his shares the club owes his company Sports Direct over £200m which also needs to be repaid. With Reading there is a loan outstanding to Sir John but nowhere near that amount and as he wants to continue in an honourary role he will probably not require immediate repayment. Therefore the true comparison is would you buy Reading for £80m or Newcastle for £300m?

plus of course with Newcastle you'd have a bunch of supporters who would slavishly accept false promises, lack of investment, bad management, asset stripping and dreadful performances without complaint and recourse to protest, and swallow this shit unreservedly because they have staying power, courage, loyalty and faith. (We call these people f*cking mugs).... ah, ermm....
