paddy20 MeMeMe Unfortunately, it's business before football now. The main contest is off the pitch and fought behind closed doors, undisclosed fees and in the 'Reading way'.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Business before football. Unfortunately this could all backfire as gradually you will see the diehard supporters get more and more disillusioned. I have loved football and Reading for a long time but for the first time I feel iI would miss a match or go on holiday during the season. I no longer feel part of my boyhood club. I have also seen behind the scenes of what goes on behind closed doors of a premiership club and its not pretty. If its not careful top professional football will implode!
The last sentence is spot on re finances. But there's always been a fan attrition rate as people age and providing a club can maintain reasonable success there's always new young blood through the turnstiles to replace them.
I've no doubt our attendences will decline if we fail to challenge for promotion consistently. But I can't see the average dropping below 15,000 without a relegation to the third tier. And lets face it, that's at least 50% better than pre Mad Stad tier 2 Reading.
is there really any genuine sign of falling attendences in football?
