winchester_royal Not sure what's desperate about bringing a local non league lad in on trial tbh.

Don't see the problem either. If he's no good you don't offer a contract, what's to lose? I am not sure why people are getting a bit 'meeehhh' about us doing this. Not as if many of our 'big' signings over the past six or seven years have been up to much.

I think in the past he'd not have even been noticed.

At 24 you have to wonder why no one has picked him up yet. This does just smack of brett williamz to me.

but we haven't signed him up, its just a look see. Like others said, I'd rather see our academy lads than this guy.

P!ssed Off A poor loss for the Royals, in which Marcus Williams and Brett Williams battled it out for the award of 'Worst Williams on the pitch'.

From your judgment, who won (lost?)

I asked Kane how his time with us was and if he's still on trial or done for now.

He replied saying if it goes ahead it'll be in pre-season.

stealthpapes I swore that any time someone said Cedric baseya, I would post this

If this guy could have just half the impact of Cedric - the Reading legend that singlehandedly won us promotion to the Premier League - then I'm all for this. :D

Actually I think the only period of our recent history where he wouldn't have been noticed is the Anton years. This is a return to the Reading way, which I quite like tbh.

Crawley fans were impressed when they had him on trial last summer, but they didn't have the money that Bognor wanted them to cough up. He's been captain for a young age, which suggests he has the type of leadership qualities that we may need next season with a young squad, and if he's impressed our scouts then he must have something about him.

He comes in for the first couple of weeks of pre-season, if he's good enough then we'll be able to see that and nab ourselves a bargain, if he's shit then we'll say good-bye with no harm done. Don't see the issue. But no doubt it will have the twitterati all riled up come July.

You aren't really going to find the next Ian Wright, without going through a few Brett Williams. If you get the guy in, have a look what have we lost? Not a lot, probably a tank of petrol and an extra face at the lunch queue.

Expecting Robert Codner to pitch up any day now, maybe get Daley Thompson back as well.

I was at a match Codner played for us, pre-season friendly against someone or other I think, left a lasting impression :D

I'd probably disagree. Clubs will do many similar 'deals' over the start of the summer. It is only because the fans want something to say is 'typical of RFC now' that this has been spotted.

Well put.
Some of the more recent Reading fans think we should be spunking millions on established players. I find that a bit boring personally. Nothing like a random punt on a (relatively) unknown.

I rather think there isn't going to be another Ian Wright. I'm not against trialling these players, I'm against signing them when they're obviously nowhere near the first team and given their age almost certainly never will be.

Would you settle for a Dave Kitson?

Juding by recent forays on there, the Twitterati are already riled up. Now would be a good time to sign him up under the 'today's a good day to release bad news' kind of thing. I am rather disappointed that there hasn't been a lemming like level of self-despatch from some of the inane tweeters though.

Yes, I'd be quite happy to get in a proven lower league goalscorer.

Just off Twitter, he's gone to Margate......

http://www.margate-fc.co.uk/news/blues-snap-up-bognor-captain-kane-wills-1222982.html

Maybe it was the blue and white hoops that confused them.

Cue screams that we can't even compete with Non-League clubs now.

Given our current situation this is probably what we'll be doing for a while. Taking players on trial is a no brainer, after all if you don't check an opportunity out you won't find that overlooked gem.
