I find that irritating like the phrase " Like the Man.Utds, Arsenals and Chelseas of this world."

There is only ONE of each......................singular, not plural.

TheSiege Current rumours are suggesting we will spend in January and the biggest rumour concerns Arshavin. I have a problem with this. Had we brought in a good attacking midfielder in the Summer, I would have been happy and would have seen a 'Plan B' being thought about. Lets face it, we would all have been happy to have 'The Sig' back. However, our 25 have been picked and have proved to not be strong enough! We must surely add quality to the areas where we are currently underperforming and, Arshavin's position is not one of our current problems.

So like the pillock you are, you assume Arshavin is our only target. We will be looking at a few different positions.

Personally I'd like to see us sign some kind of Clarence Seedorf type midfielder, someone who runs about like Church, plays the ball like Gullit and shoots like Roberto Carlos.
Unfortunately that might be hard to find, so I'll settle for this guy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_Ciljan_Skjelbred

He's quite young, runs about a lot and is quite good with the ball. Very different from what we've got, but not lazy like some skillful players we've had before were.
According to this, Hamburg want to sell him in January:
http://www.dagbladet.no/2012/11/09/sport/fotball/per_ciljan_skjelbred/bundesliga/hamburg/24282106/

He's only 25 and just a few years ago he was considered one of the best talents in Europe.
I figure he'd go cheap, maybe £1M?

Sounds interesting, always seen that guy on Football Manager... one of the best Norwegians.

Personally think all we need is a good creative central midfielder to play alongside Ledge, Tabb and Karacan have been great but dont offer enough going forward while Guthrie seems to be out of favour.

Arshavin is a player id love here, but where does he fit in.

-----------------------McCarthy--------------------

Gunter------Morrison------Gorkss-------Shorey

-------------Ledge------------Tabb----------------

Mcleary--------------Arshavin----------------Jobi

--------------------Pog/Roberts--------------------

------------------------McCarthy----------------------

Gunter-------Morrison-------Gorkss---------Shorey

Mcleary--------Ledge---------Jobi-----------Arshavin

---------Any combo of Pog/Roberts/ALF/Hunt------

The problem seems to be we dont have a settled side, the only players who seem to have a guaranteed starting spot at the moment are Leigertwood, McAnuff, Shorey, Gorkss and McCarthy (injury aside)

Adam Federici warns January spending spree could disrupt team spirit at Reading

Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici has warned that a January spending spree could disrupt team spirit.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Norwich made it 10 games without a win for the newly promoted Premier League side and Russian owner Anton Zingarevich hinted last week that he may bring in up to 10 new players in January.

However, Federici believes that any new signings in January will need to be the right kind of characters for the Reading squad.

"We've been together as a good squad for a long time now," he said. "We have added a few players but I think there is a danger when you add too many players into a squad - you kind of break that team spirit.

"It's something we have here in abundance. You have to be careful who you bring in, the sort of characters that come in. It's alright for people who sit far away from the game and say, 'I want that player and that player'.

"But you need to look at their personalities and think, 'Are they going to fit into the group' before bringing in any players."

Federici kept Reading's first clean sheet of the season on Saturday and he feels that they have been unlucky in recent weeks.

He added: "I don't think we're that far away. I thought we deserved three points against Norwich, we deserved three points against QPR. That was my point with bringing in players. We've got it there, we just need to bring it out and show everyone.

"We still have the rest of this month, which is a big month for us. We got one monkey off our backs with the clean sheet. The next one will be the three points. It's just getting that one lucky break. Then getting 40 points out of 50 like last season would be lovely."

Should this not be Adam Federici warns Adam Federici could disrupt team spirit at Reading?

Doesn't he know that January signings are well known for their immediate impact on teams fortunes and their ability to settle in straight away?

Check the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOfJ54NuNIw

Just shows a little bit of his repertoir, very good first touch, good eye for a pass, creates chances and knows how to score as well. And runs about a lot.
I just think this would be the creative spark down the middle that we are lacking.

Looks like the perfect signing... as you said, shouldn't cost too much. The Scandinavian's generally have a decent attitude imo and wages shouldn't be an issue.
Despite only playing in the Tippeligan really, I think it'd be worth a shout.

Edit: Having said that, he's also a father, and seems to like living(?) in Hamburg. Well, as far as I can tell from looking at his twitter. A lovely way to earn a living doing very little and raising a child.

Edit: Edit: Just went over the article again and didn't realise how little Hamburg seem to want him, he's also being advised to find regular football... there is a possibility still!

Sensible signings?

by akranes » 12 Nov 2012 21:50

Can anyone think of any good signings, financially as well...?

For midfield I believe, like many others, that we need a Gylfi.
Possibilities?
Robert Koren - His goal on FLS shows he's still got it.. possibly.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Koren 750k~
Zvjezdan Misimović - Two more years of his contract at Dynamo Moscow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zvjezdan_Misimovi%C4%87 2M +
Per Ciljan Skjelbred (thanks Ideal ^^) - Seems plausible! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_Ciljan_Skjelbred 1-2M

I think, especially if Pearce leaves, we should go in for a experienced AND decent, consistent central defender.

Up front, I think maybe we're alright.

What about Mikael Silvestre (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mika%C3%ABl_Silvestre) as a defender? He was on Soccer AM the other week and he seemed to be considering signing for some joke Indian team that don't have a stadium and train at a school so surely Reading would be a more attractive prospect? Perhaps his wages would be a bit high but obviously he has bags of experience at top level. Currently training at Manchester united so probably still fit enough. Also as a free agent he would be available before January (speaking of which, is there a free transfer deadline? On Football Manager there is always one about now but don't know how true to life that is?)

He'd probably be a good influence on the group, but I'm not sure if he's too old now, is he past it...? Wouldn't mind someone like that around.

Hunt and Roberts imo could definitely hold their own this season... Pog and Alfie can get a nice amount of goals too...
No 'star' quality though.
