TheSiege There appear to be many people on this forum who have an inferiority complex! We don't become a 'name' by including Owen, Inzaghi, Heskey or even Gary Lineker in our ranks! We already have the history of Robin Friday and others. What matters is us having a 25-man squad for the coming season who WILL NOT BE RELEGATED! None of the afore-mentioned players will help that. If we have another space, give me Rhodes or Defoe!

You've doubted super-pippo, and football is over.

Well done you.

I doubt any gamble in a 25-man squad, when the club in question is mostly consisting of untried players at this level!

Football is over.

So Inzaghi is the new Sigurdsson? Get the boy in, amaaazing player.

I've read all your arguments against him and they just don't wash - if Pippo played here next year it would relegate Gylfi to being just the second best player who'd ever played for the club (third if you count John Mackie).

I stand to be corrected, but anybody against this move is, what, under 20?

McDermott laughs off Inzaghi rumours
By Jonny Fordham
July 20, 2012

Brian McDermott has laughed off rumours that he offered a contract to Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi.

Press reports in Italy claimed that Reading were set to sign the 38-year-old striker on a deal worth close to £20,000 a week.

Royals have been linked with an endless list of superstars since Russian millionaire Anton Zingarevich bought a 51-per-cent stake in the club for £25million.

However, McDermott never had any intention of bringing former AC Milan and Juventus star Inzaghi to Madejski Stadium.

When asked where the rumours might have come from, McDermott told getreading: “I know exactly where that has come from... I was sat in Talin with Nick Hammond and one of our scouts (last week).

“We were introduced to an Italian agent and we said hello. We started talking about numerous players and he said: ‘I can get you Inzaghi.’

“I said: ‘Okay, that’s good, he’s old isn’t he?’

“I told him that we wouldn’t be going down that road and I was happy with the players that I have and we carried on talking.

“That translated as; ‘we’ve offered him a contract worth about £960,000’.”

I cant believe what I'm reading here lol, some of the posts are pure comedy...

Firstly I registered on this forum only because Inzaghi was linked to your club.. If he signs for ya'll I promise me and millions of fans around the world (who never really gave 2 cents about Reading FC) will watch every single game of yours next season, not because Inzaghi is a great striker, but because he is one of the greatest of all time..

Those against him because of his age need to see these 2 goals,

Against Barcelona just 2 years back, when he was 37

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evqwySg0ir0

and this goal in his final game for AC Milan just a couple of months back,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjU_ZXVjVoY

I doubt any of the current Reading strikers are good enough to even tie a 39 yr old Inzaghi's shoelaces, let alone talk about him not being good enough for the team.

Here's what Jose Mourinho had to say about a 37 yr old Inzaghi before the Real Madrid - Milan CL match...

"Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho has claimed he fears Milan's Filippo Inzaghi more than anyone else. The Portuguese tactician spoke at a press conference on the eve of the clash between the Rossoneri and Los Blancos: "Milan can play with ten strikers if they like but hopefully not Inzaghi. If he plays, it will be more difficult"

and sure enough he came on from the bench and banged in 2 goals for Milan, and totally changed the game.

That first volley is

It would have been amazing, just unbelievable to have him here. I think the vast majority of RFC would have loved it to happen and the rest probably just saw his age and made a decision based on that. If you don't know much about RFC then you won't know that we once had a great striker way past his prime come to us at the age of 38 and it was a disaster. But that was Les Ferdinand and not Inzhagi. Still, people haven't forgotten.

As you said, it would have raised our profile considerably but the club ethos is built around players who are hungry for the game and hungry to play for Reading. We have no big stars and we haven't gone out and bought any house hold names this year, so the signing of a Inzhagi would been a huge step away from what has got us where we are.

lol@Les Ferdinand... I bet most people outside England don't even know who the guy is.

Inzaghi is a a European no wait a legend in world football...

**2 time CL winner. Milan lost against Liverpool in 05 final because he was injured (guess what happened when he was fit for a rematch 2 years later in the CL final against Pool again? He scored 2 goals that won Milan the CL.

**Scored the only goal against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup

**Scored 2 against Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup Final

**The only player to have scored in every international club competition. He won Milan the Champions League, The UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup by scoring in every final.

**2nd highest goalscorer in European Football, and although Raul has more goals, Inzaghi has a greater strike rate.

He's like old wine...he'll definitely have an impact on your team if he signs, regardless of his age. He also has a knack of banging in goals against big teams. Expect him to make a mockery of the Premier League's best defenders if he does indeed sign.

That's a lot of effort for a signing that ain't happening. Kudos for the info though.

We've already got a mythos in the team and his name is Jimmy Kebe.

**
Scored a hat-trick while in a coma in 2008/09

**
Got 29 assists despite missing all games but 2 in 2007/08

**
Can walk on water, hot coals and ten-inch nails while juggling a ball - since he was 1 year old.

Should I go on?

Personally I don't make any decision on a player until I've seen them play, whether they be 9 or 90 or arrive with a bad or good reputation.

Age is immaterial it's what happens on the pitch that matters and if Inzaghi turns up and takes any opportunites given him to play I'm all for it.

Unfortunately I reckon there's b****r all truth in this rumour so I guess we'll never know.....

Can imagine what will happen...

Manchester United 0-0 Reading. Jimmy Kebe picks it up on the right of midfield, cuts inside 3 players, swings the ball across, Noel Hunt heads it back for Inzaghi who plants it in the top corner. Man United screw up their Premier League title dreams, Reading reach Europe. Boom Boom!

And whats this on the radio, West Ham have just been relegated after being spanked 6-0 by Wigan... great day all round
