Speculation-Adkins back to Saints

by windermere_royal » 15 Jan 2014 21:50

Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese resigned today, if the manager carries out his threat and follows him, anyone think they may make a move to get NA back into the hot seat? its clear their fans have a lot more regard for him than some of the dicks on this board.
Even though he was dumped I`m convinced he would jump at the chance to go back there.

Doubtful. Plus what manager would really want to jump into that turmoil?

Doubt they'll even try tbh. And even if they did, despite what some think of him NA is very much a man of honour, and I'd say it's unlikely he'd jump ship half way through a project to return to a club that sacked him little over a year ago. Of course if our own ownership saga takes a turn for the worse that may change..

Doesn't really have the passion for us so I think if the opportunity did arise he would move back there. Not that they would want him back though.

Adkins was quick enough to jump into the turmoil of our relegation battle, writing it off and trying to give himself the opportunity to be a hero. So I fully expect him to throw his hat in the ring down on the South Coast.

Someone who wants to jump out of less turmoil here?

Because that would be very sensible, wouldn't it.

Genuinely serious question, on what do you base the "NA is very much a man of honour" remark?

Mainly I suppose on the reputation he has down this way. He lives in Winchester and you won't find anyone round here with a bad word to say about him.

Also the way he carried himself through the whole drama at Saints, and the fact that he's got on with the job here despite quite obviously being sold down the river by AZ.

I could be wrong of course, but I've seen nothing to suggest he's anything other than a good guy. Apart from his 'perma-tan' and use of cliches in interviews of course.

Fair go, but hearsay should perhaps be couched in terms of less certainty, maybe?

Pochettino has said he will make his mind up about his future in May; so he will be leaving then.

I have no idea if Southampton would be interested in getting Adkins back but I seriously doubt it; presumably there has been at least a degree of agreement within Southampton's boardroom that Adkins' departure has been beneficial for the club, so why would they make what many (maybe with the exception of Matt le Tissier of course) would perceive to be a retrograde step in re-appointing him?

Regardless as to whether or not Adkins would go back (and why wouldn't he if the individual responsible for his departure has himself left?) I'd be very surprised if he will be given the chance to make that decision.......
