Loughborough University must be the only side who play University football and are a semi professional team right? Some achievement for them to get to the last 4 of the fa vase isn't it?

They must be really doing against the odds to be doing that, albeit being a sports University must have some ex pro players there

Don’t think Loughborough University (also known as Loughborough Students FC) play in university football as they are members of the UCL (United Counties League) playing in the Premier North division which feeds into the southern league. They are currently 4th in that league so obviously are pretty useful this season. They’re currently managed by the ex Ipswich, Brum and Wolves player Jamie Clapham.

One thing I do note in the vase this season is the demise of the northern clubs which are usually very strong.

I remember back in the 2000s there was a team called "team bath" who were a University team and were very good. IIRC they made the 1st round proper of the FA Cup. Think they went bust not long after for some reason. FOC will probably know more?

...yup Team Bath had a short stellar period in the Pyramid which included THREE appearances in the FA Cup 1st Round - climbed from Western One where they were admitted in 2000/01 up as far as Conference South, where they finished 11th in their only season at that level 2008/09, before effectively 'folding' and reverting back to Uni Football.

Think I might have seen them play once, up at Yate in a Southern League game but they vanished almost overnight - between seasons.
I recall there were some serious constitutional doubts expressed throughout their tenure, something to do with their classification as a sporting Academy - as to whether they were actually full-time professionals etc. Think they avoided any sanctions by virtue of the fact they rarely stayed at any one level for very long......

I do remember they were bitterly despised by fans of the nearby Bath City, whom they actually surpassed on the field for a very brief period during their final season.

...in a faint echo of that someone on the NLM has post a question only yesterday, following their Vase win, whether they are currently semi-pro in any way and just how many of their current squad are full-time Stundents.

Went to Wallingford 3 Woodley Utd 2 last evening. Strange game, Woodley were terrible 2-0 down early in the game. I thought Wallingford would win comfortably, which despite the scoreline they did. The ref had an interesting game- he ambled down the centre line all match. Only played 43 mins in the 1st half and gave Woodley a pen which i swear no one in the ground saw apart from him !!

...as above somewhere - I think - the Northern dominance of recent times in the Vase, has been absent this year. This might be because a significant number of the stronger NE contingent, finally took or were lured into, promotion up to STEP04, by last season's re-structure. I suppose the FA could get some credit for that as they'd dominated at STEP05 for so long without showing any aspirations to progress.
The obverse applies though, in the far West where STEP06 and below has been decimated by all the larger clubs leaving behind a huge vacuum, as they've finally shifted up/across to the Western leagues.
Not quite sure what happened this season to the East Anglia clubs, who have often had a greater representation in the latter stages.
...and just by way of an update the NLM forum has seen some more postings re Loughborough Uni - with confirmation (reportedly) that the current squad are definitely all full-time stundents. Not sure if also mentioned but coached by ex-Ipswich, Spuds and 'Brum scum' Jamie Clapham.

According to the latest in Truro, planning permission has now been granted for Stadium Cornwall and work is expected to start next season with Truro hoping to return for season 23/24. They will continue to share at Plymouth Parkway next season.

I think the (quite plausible) stumbling block to any progress with Stadium for Cornwall is, what it probably always has been, the funding.
- latest (completely unfounded view, from someone over on NLM) states they have got £3m from the Council, £1m from local colleges & £1m from prospective sharers 'Pirates'. This is also under close review as the Rugby club might only take part, if the plans go with the larger capacity option - which would push up the current projected outlay of £18m-20m.
- otherwise they would not be able to seek promotion themselves. The current proposal above is a very much scaled-down affair which might effectively rule out their involvement.
- only last year the 'Pirates owners' were throwing around figures of £3.5m being made available from them, so something has changed - and you can understand the scepticism from some looking on?

However their current long-term owner has only this week - announced what he's calling a 'Sunset Plan' - which might ally some of the rumored negative vibes, in that it doesn't tally with other figures being bandied about.... but it does rely on receiving a hefty hand-up from the DCMS.

-presumably the Football club are already leaking considerable money due to the groundshare arrangement with Plymouth Parkway - and rumours abound that that is set to be curtailed. 'Parkway' are said to be losing patience with the adverse effect this is having on the pitch - both clubs dropping well behind fixture schedules due to postponements.
The dwindling Play Off prospects for City aren't helping the mood either?

Bracknell Council rejects football club's development plan

Looks like there’s some unanticipated work to do - a cynic might suggest that KSB didn’t grease the right palms.

Surely this has been an absolutely key element of his vision right from the get-go? Must be a right kick in the balls for him.

Plans to develop on the former ground of Bracknell Town FC were rejected at last night's planning meeting.

The proposal, which was widely expected to pass due to having officers' recommendation approval, was quashed as Bracknell Forest Councillors voted against the motion by eleven votes to one, with one abstention.

Had it been approved, the plan would have seen the current dwelling and sports building on Larges Lane demolished and replaced by 126 apartments and 167 parking spaces.

Key reasons for the objections included the parking situation, the loss of a stadium, issues around drainage and the lack of trees in the plan.

The executive member for adult services, health and housing, Councillor Dale Birch, said: “I recognise that it is an allocated site, I recognise also that it is a sustainable location. But there my positive comments must end.

“This is an absolute travesty of over development in an area that is very sensitive.”

The issue of parking was raised continually throughout the meeting, the consensus being that the number of spaces allocated fell short of the parking provision as part of new developments.

The vice-chairman of the planning committee, Councillor Michael Brossard, said: “If you use the number of one, two and three bedroom apartments, the requirement is actually for 233 spaces against the 167 that are proposed.”

The committee also raised concerns about a lack of allocated parking spaces. The development site is situated close to St Joseph’s Primary School, where there have already been complaints by residents of traffic congestion and inadequate parking.

Councillor Paul Bidwell said: “The traffic when I’ve gone to Larges Lane, at all times, has been awful and to have unallocated parking is going to lead to rioting.

“We already have stories across the borough of people getting into fist fights because of people taking their parking space.”

The application was submitted by Bracknell Town FC who saw the plans as “crucial” to enhance the facilities and community football in the area.

The club’s chairman and CEO, Kayne Steinborn-Busse, said: “That decision last night will rock Bracknell Town to the core. What they have done will put [the club] on the brink of extinction.

“They declined to come and look at the sites […] they didn’t have any comprehension of the project.”

When the council goes against an officer's recommendation in a virtual meeting it must be confirmed at a physical meeting. However, that is now likely to be refused based on the committee vote.

“We will be appealing, however the appeals process takes 12 months and it will cost us £50-100k,” said Steinborn-Busse.

The club won the Isthmian League South-Central Division title on Saturday and will now be promoted to the non-league pyramid.

“We now have to spend money that could be going on our children's provision for education and sport within our group,” said Steinborn-Busse.

“We are going to spend it on barristers because a group of councillors didn’t come and look at the project. It’s scandalous,” he said.

Not sure how that works geographically.

Last night my mate ventured over to Oxford City’s ground to watch the 2nd semi- final of the Oxfordshire senior cup. Both semi’s held on the ground and Oxford City lucky enough to be in it and therefore at ‘home’. They beat North Leigh 4-1 to set up a barnstorming final against neighbours Oxford Utd who had beaten Thame 2-0 in the other semi. I suppose City can’t complain if they hold the final at the Kassam stadium.

Statement from the Isthmian League regarding Staines Town:

The Board of the Pitching In Isthmian League met earlier today, and amongst the items discussed was the statement published by Staines Town FC yesterday.

We have now written to the club, noting their objection to playing further matches at Wheatsheaf Park, and as such have decided to postpone the match between Staines Town and Chipstead scheduled for Saturday. We hope that this will give all parties the breathing space required to find a resolution.

We hope that the club will still be able to play scheduled away matches, and we have offered assistance, where this is required, to enable home matches to be played at suitable alternative venues.

Pitching In Isthmian League Chairman, Nick Robinson, added:

"We very much hope that the situation can be resolved in a way that delivers a positive outcome for Staines Town Football Club. We are available to assist with any footballing matters going forward."
