My mate has gone to near Bath to watch the Trophy tie between Larkhall and Totton- playing for the visitors is ex Royal Brett Williams.

My mate has gone to near Bath to watch the Trophy tie between Larkhall and Totton- playing for the visitors is ex Royal Brett Williams.

..Larkhall is one seriously freaky ground to get to - up on top of a very steep hill via a narrow windy track
- it rivals Shortwood in Nailsworth nr Forest Gn/Stroud for anyone whose made it there
- heaven knows how they ever manage to get coaches up there. Big sloping terraced stand down one side - great views SE across the hills to Bath

...I think it is not far from where a large tipper truck sadly ploughed into a bus queue or suchlike about 6 years back - not surprised as the inclines around there are vertiginous!

We combated the M25 - which was just about orbiting - to get round to Aveley FC's relatively new-build - for an Essex dust-up between 'lodgers' Grays and Basildon United - ended 2-0 but 2 very late goals settled it.

...at the moment yes - there's that one on tonight (Tue) - and currently a (non) league game, that is still on, up at Staines v T&M
- cd be a late swarm of anoraks descending upon Wheatsheaf Park tonight - there's plenty living in that area that I know of.

- Burger Van's pretty good there too and a bit like the Camrose (was) - it has a huuuuge seated stand overlooking the pitch and plenty of cover.

I had a vague notion that they've possibly 'fallen out of love' with the co-located sports/social club - so getting a beer might be tricky - I didn't venture in there last time I visited for a 'lodgers' Thames Valley game (Wraysbury v Newbury) in early June.

,....actually the food at Short Lane (Ashford) is/was quite decent too if you like standard footy-fare .... and the small bar there used to serve a fairly recent (and surprisingly decent) variant of Courage Best
(not in anyway related to the iffy chemically produced 'venom' we often had to put up with round here, in the last months of the Brewery )

... plenty were scheduled but some leagues have taken the decision to scrap the Xmas fixtures altogether for this week (e.g. Eastern Counties)

...yup 'port are tweeting 'game ON' after AM Insp - enjoy - not a great viewing experience there in the wet and just too far for a H/T dash back to the bar in the Cricket Club (if open) ... though they were putting more facilities into their 'containers' - so they may have upped their hospitality further ....
.. run by nice people and you'll get to see the league leaders too.
.. and the flying winger - legend Dan Rapley great local servant to the game.

.... it's still a tad damp 'n drizzly out there - will be plenty more declared OFF - I've updated a couple on the list above.

My own ambitions being 'reined' in (no PUN intended) as my early KO in Sussex sank about the same time as our 'top order' down under .... and a few of my 15:00 choices have already been postponed - so looking around for some 'plastic' now - fave seems to be the 11:30 CCL-PS match at Sheerwater v Banstead

The Score was 2-1 to ‘stoke heading into the last 7’
– Thatcham levelled on 83 following an uncharacteristic Strudley error – fell behind then levelled at 3-3 on 90’ only for 'Dragons' to retake the lead and with it all three points, moments later, with a long range shot.

Bracknell Town 5-0 Binfield att 721 – Seb Bowerman with 4 against his old club; Max Herbert started the rout on 12’
- ‘Robins’ lead maintained at 12 points with positions 2nd to 6th all winning.

– Herne Bay got 1100+ vs Whitstable and Bury Town saw 1300 through the turnstiles, for the visit of near neighbours and league leaders Stowmarket.
… up in the Premier, where you’d expect some big turnouts, Cheshunt counted in close to a thousand for the visit of Enfield Town and Horsham v Lewes attracted close to 1300 – the ‘Rooks’ heading back south with the points after a 1-3 win.

Sheerwater A-A Banstead Athletic c. 75’ visitors had insufficient fit players to complete the game - at that point the score was {SEVEN} 7-0 -though there had been at least 10' of standing around deliberating, before a decision was made to call things off - so may have been slightly earlier?
- fairly bizarre contest: chose it as my first Leg of a double – my mate hadn’t responded or been roused by my call at 09:30 about getting out somewhere and both parts of my ambitious Sussex-based-double had already been washed out.
- this is a ‘new-build’ leisure centre [Eastwood] with an all-weather pitch including spectator seats inside a ‘cage’ within a regeneration estate in a northern suburb of Woking – very near to where the old ground was inside an Athletics track alongside the Basingstoke Canal.
- Large upstairs bar offers alternative view point – would be good on a rainy day – as it was at times this AM.
- Banstead turned up with 10 players but only trailed 3-0 at the break and were trying to make a contest of it.
- Very early 2nd half their keeper got injured - let in two quick-fire goals and went off reportedly with a damaged hand – if so not sure why he couldn’t try to play outfield – unless too severe – though he wasn’t being treated or attempting to leave the playing arena altogether.
- another player almost immediately broke down with cramp and having shipped two more fairly soft goals with a sub-keeper between the sticks, a third player appeared to ‘remove’ himself from play citing illness.
- words were exchanged and the ref swept away all argument from the situation by sin-binning a further Banstead player leaving them with 6 remaining – whereupon everybody trooped home – match Abandoned.

- opted for this as the 2nd leg of my double - as the KO was just within range and a 14:00 start (no idea why? ..... the lights seemed to function Ok 2nd half – albeit it hadn’t really got dark by FT.)
- ‘JamBoys’ left to rue plenty of missed chances and the mostly youthful Ash side grew into the game and won comfortably as the visitors tired – included the classical spectacular overhead bicycle-kick volley direct from a corner
