SLAMMED Too right. Re-offenders should be punished more severely.

As they are in the real World do you mean?

Personally I thought he got off very lightly, probably because he is Joey Barton, rather than the other way round.

All 3 incidents (the Tevez elbow, the Aguerro hack and attempted head butt of Kompany) were red card offences for violent conduct, each with a 3 match ban. Add in the standard additional punishments that any player gets for getting more than 1 red card a season, together with the fact he had a red card earlier in the season, and his punishment should have been:

Tevez elbow; 3 match ban, + 1 match for 2nd red of season = 4 match ban
Aguerro hack; 3 match ban, + 2 matches for 3rd red of season = 5 match ban
Kompany attempted head butt; 3 match ban, + 3 matches for 4th red = 6 match ban

Total (before any additional bans that the FA could have imposed due to the fact that all 3 incidents happened within a couple of minutes in the same match, and he clearly bought the game into disrepute in a much worse way than some Manager spouting off about a linesman after a game) = 15 match ban.

So for all of those who think he was treatly unfairly, how has Joey Barton been victimised exactly?

Friday's Legacy The fine is a joke. When he kicks out like that completely unprovoked then you should hit him with a much bigger fine than that.

Isn't there the "maximum two weeks wages" cap on fines for footballers? Barton on £37.5K a week at QPR isn't that outlandish so probably where the fine amount comes from...

Is that actually his wage? If so it's another LOL Barton moment. He was winding players up on the pitch last season boasting he was on £70k a week!

No sympathy for Barton whatsoever but it sticks in the craw somewhat that that nasty little cnut Tevez gets away scot-free.

For getting elbowed in the face? Yeah, it does seem lenient

southbank1871
Franchise FC Danny Mills on 5Live has just been spouting that 12 games is way over the top and it's only because it's Joey.
What a plank Danny Mills is.

I think he's right though, if this was pretty much anyone else, it would have been about 8 games.

TBF if it was anyone else they wouldn't have done what he did

Mr A, in addition to your totting up isn't there some bonus matches to be added on for failing to leave the field?

I notice Joseph wasn't sticking it to the man on twitter last night, didn't even see him retweeting Nietsche

1. Tevez threw the 1st punch.
2. He didn't get elbowed in the face.

I took a few sly digs when I played football and always remained calm. But I’d make an exception for Tevez, if that smug cnut windmilled into me like he did Barton, I’d almost definitely ‘do a Joey’ on him.

But, that said, no sympathy for Barton, and he has got off lightly. Still, it’s essentially a longer ban, as surely no club is going to put him in their 25?

Good to see The FA taking their "Kick It Out" campaign so seriously. Suarez got less for calling Evra a negrito!

They got the same, surely?

The extra 4 for Barton was for the initial red card, which being his 2nd of the season mean it was an instant 4 game ban

IMO - the whole Liverpool team should have had an 8 game ban after coming out and openly supporting racism.

I think 12 games is harsh.

I know where Mr A is coming from when you break the 3 incidents out on their own, but I can't think of any other examples of where different incidents are charged independantly like you're suggesting.

If a player gets a yellow, or a red, and then handbags carries, or there's a bit of dissent or pushing someone else on the way off the pitch usually it's only the single card that picks up any punishment. If this had happened in the Championship or League One to a run of the mill player, instead of Barton in such a high profile game, then nothing else would've happened apart from the usual tariff for the red and additional games for his multiple reds over the season.

Not a lot of sympathy for him though.

Yes but a bit of handbags or dissent is not the same as a knee in the back or a headbutt.

Plus the fact he admitted doing it to "take one of their players" with him

Dean Windass got 3 red cards in the same game - though none for violent conduct - which got him a 6 match ban.

I don;t know if that is his wage - I was just having a guess at what the fine was based on and suggesting that a wage of £37.5K a week is plausible in the PL.

So all in Scotland under a different governing body, and two in park football where the bans are done completely differently and there is more done because of the implications on the physical safety of those involved.

cmonurz Yes but a bit of handbags or dissent is not the same as a knee in the back or a headbutt.

Not sure, I think you often see pushing and raising of hands (which is apparently violent conduct in professional football these days) after a sending off, or a player who gets sent off for hitting player A squaring up to and pushing player B, or going head to head (ala Reina's red against Newcastle) but they're very rarely, if ever, punished with multiple reds.

The admission of trying to spark something else off to even up the sides may well have caused him more grief, but I don't think they stated that it came into it did they? A bringing the game into disrepute charge over that might well have been in order though.

Apparently Barton is on £80k a week.

QPR are now doing an internal review- and are considering tearing up his contract on grounds of gross misconduct. 3 years remaining.
