Jose Mourinho has responded to Chelsea's poor start to the season by pointing his previous successes.

Chelsea, who currently sit one place above the relegation zone, face Maccabi Tel-Aviv on Tuesday in their Champions League opener.

Mourinho says his team are not happy with their form and will be looking to put it right in Europe.

"You have just to go back three months and three months ago we were the best team in the country, the best manager and the best players. We are not happy, but we know what we are," said Mourinho, whose side lost 3-1 at Everton last Saturday.

"We start so bad. (But) it's not because of that that somebody can steal what we are.

"Nobody can steal what we are, nobody can steal our trophies, nobody can steal our history* . We know what we are: champions of England."

I hope he gets off, and the Arsenal defender too, because it was extremely entertaining and the kind of battle between a forward and the opposition centre halves I like to see, but can't really see it. The letter of the law uses the word violence, and there weren't any violent acts, but a hand in the face or (literally) the slightest knee-jerk reaction is enough nowadays.

(I don't think that was the case in 1998 when Beckham was sent off - that's still my personal choice for worst refereeing decision ever.)
