floyd__streete Prediction:

Pompey to stay up. Reading to lose at Fratton Park next season.

Carling Cup draw is in June m8.

At which point we won't be able to be drawn to play Pompey as:

1) We'll both be seeded in Round 1 or
2) We'll be in the Premiership and thus get a bye.

I didn't know teams from the Blue Sqaure south played in the Carling cup?

It would be an insult to teams that work hard to avoid administration, if Pompey stay up.

Check their fixtures. I am fairly sure they will stay up

Even if they do stay up, it is by no means certain they will still be in existance. Everything is being done to get them to the end of the season...but who is going to finance next season? There is no prospect so far of a CVA - if that were still true, then they would start with -10 points at least...

Indeed.

I reckon they're going out of business this time. The date will be interesting - if they make it beyond the end of the season and there are three clubs relegated below them there must be a date beyond which the highest finisher of those cannot be reprieved.

Couldn't we write to the FL and say that Reading FC will happily trade run-ins with Portsmouth?

Would've thought this was 1st July - as IIRC football "years" run 1st July to 30th June.

Football league fixtures published June 18th so not sure how this would pan out...?

18th June to 30th June won't be a concern seeing as the season starts two weeks (18th August) later due to the Euros so they could always re-do the fixtures.

My comment was borne out of Dirk mentioning something about the "Premier League share" being passed between the relegated & promoted clubs - this exchange "happens" on 1st July.

Where IS Dirk when you need him?

Would you buy a season ticket for Pompey next season?

Another source of income they are unlikely to get to tide them over the summer.

Yes, it would be the date that the new seasons league is ratified, which is at the FL AGM im guessing. Bear in mind that any reprieve will have a knock on all the way down to football pyriamid, not just the FL.

A 5-1 stuffing at home today. Too much to ask now, isn't it? They as good as down.

And there they go. With luck to join the likes of Oxford, Swindon ad Aldershot as teams we'll never play again.

This is almost as good as us going up

Almost, but not quite - it would be if they were liquidated

However, we might just owe Portsmouth a little thanks for today - had they not capitulated to Fulham we may have stuck around the the PL and not had the bitter-sweet last twelve months.

Pompey's income reduces next season even further. That throws a big and damaging spanner in the works.

Screw Portsmouth and screw their chavy fans.

At the end of the 07/08 season we went down because they rested up for a cup final. 4 years later we go back up while they head for the abyss.

Karma is a bitch.
