his touch for the first goal was great too.

On the basis of this week's matches, Salah and De Bruyne were more ineffective than Benzema.

That's certainly true.

Given how much space Madrid gave City, they really were pretty poor. Both teams were so much better in the first leg.
Salah's really not going since the Afcon and WC defeats. Mane and Diaz have been carrying the fight for a while now. Feel a bit for Jota, he's still chipping in, but looks the most affected by Diaz's arrival IMO.

Man City are very Spursy when it comes to the Champions League.

Ironically Spurs have been their least spursy in the Champions League.

Apart from the final, though tbh that match was ruined within 1 minute

3 last CL eliminations for Guardiola:

2019 - 2 goals conceded in 3 minutes

2020 - 2 goals conceded in 8 minutes

2022 - 3 goals conceded in 6 minutes

The CL is proving to be tough not only for City, but Guardiola as well. His last win being in 2013 with Bayern I believe? So it's at least a decade since he has won it.

Especially over the last 3/4 years as well, City have been seen as the best team in Europe, if not one of the (maybe when Bayern/Liverpool won it). Pretty disappointing from their point of view that they haven't succeeded yet. Similar with PSG when they lost to Bayern in the final, you could have maybe said that Bayern were slightly better, even still.

Then again, both City and PSG will win it eventually.

YorkshireRoyal99 Benzema just seems to be getting better with age at the moment, Ancelotti definitely knows how to get the best out of him that's for sure. He's having an unbelievable season. Bit early to be talking about it yet but, if he can continue this kind of form for the rest of the calendar year, he should win the Balon D'Or.

Think he is a shoo-in already. I know FIFA will be desperate to give it to Messi for the sake of the sponsors but lets be real, by Messi's standards he has been really poor. He clearly doesn't want to be at PSG and he is pining for a move back to Barca.

Benzema has been incredible at times. He doesn't do a lot in terms of all around play but he is lethal in front of goal and when you consider he is an aging player on top of his goals he more than deserves the honour imo.

Mane and Salah have got to be in with a shout.

Possible quadruple and both were in the final of the African Nations

Fine margins...

Real's second goal was someone trying to head it in being headered by someone else (is it a unident?)

The pen was also very close. I've not seen another replay since but not sure it's definite

EDIT: Looks like he just gets the touch

Brogue Well if Liverpool go on to win the league and CL then for me this is a win for football. Liverpool by no means have done what they have ‘on a budget’ but compared to the likes of city psg real etc they have. Klopp has worked miracles really. If pep leaves city having not won a CL it will one of the biggest failures in football.

Traditionally they are big spenders but you are doing Real a bit dirty there.

https://www.pulse.ng/sports/football/real-madrid-have-spent-less-money-on-transfers-in-the-last-decade-than-24-other/7vyjdks.amp

The only transfer window they spent a huge amount of money in recently was 2019 when they signed Hazard and he's not exactly been a regular, neither has their highest earner, a certain Mr G Bale.

Hang on, they’re almost never in it.

I never rated Benzema until recently. Always seemed like he needed 8 good chances to get 1 goal but he seems like for some bizarre reason in recent seasons he has been amazing, and this season has gone off the scale. His work rate seems twice as much. Maybe giving up extorting money out of people using sex tapes has given him better focus.

Unforgivable from Cresswell

To do it once is bad enough, but to do it again? That should be the end of his career at West Ham - I don’t see him recovering from that unless they somehow turn it around

Will the Gers winning the Europa eclipse Celtic winning the SPL in acheivement?
If they hang on to this it certainly will be a hell of an achievement just to get to the final.

NathStPaul Everton have spent around £650 million on transfer fees compared to Liverpool's £630 million since Klopp arrived at Anfield.

I looked today and it was 550M. Klopp didn't arrive until October of 2015 so I didn't include the transfers for 15/16. Firmino was bought in that year

LFC have done really well with sales as well tbf

Always good when I go but tonight was something special.

Would make SGE slight favourites for the final.
