Sanguine Apparently there were fans at various grounds with Liverpool scarves during the minutes' silence.

How precious are we to care?

Why would someone have a Liverpool scarf to hand, unless they supported the club?.....i mean, would people really go out of their way to buy one just for 1 minute before a game of football?!

Seems you want to tell people what should and shouldn't motivate them.

Rare agreed with Vic on this one.

Does this upset you, TBM?

Clubs acted with sensitivity, not only amongst the professional fraternity but also the likes of the Peterborough League which advised its young players to stand in silence for a minute to honour the 96. And the kids did. Impeccably. What also impressed were the individual gestures.

Elsewhere in Peterborough, Darragh MacAnthony wrapped a Liverpool scarf around his chairman’s seat at London Road.

Elsewhere, there was the Reading fan who had “JFT 96” on the back of his replica shirt. There was the Virgin Trains employee who put “Remember the 96” on the departures board for trains heading to Liverpool Lime Street. There was the steward at Loftus Road with a home-made “R.I.P. 96. Hillsborough” armband.

I don't get drawn into the Hillsborough stuff much, but this paragraph from the Telegraph succinctly puts the loss that the families of the 96 have faced - and that faced by anyone who loses a loved one. We've all been there at some point. Isn't a bit of perspective called for before using this tragedy (or any?) for cheap jokes?

To lose a loved one is an endless sorrow that no amount of sympathy, comradeship or time can ever heal. The families must inhabit each passage of 24 hours with emotions ranging from anger to hopelessness and emptiness. Fathers and mothers endure private heartache as they watch others experience the joys of parenting, the pride at a child’s graduation, the excitement of a wedding or the arrival of grandchildren. Life’s joyous staging posts are denied the Hillsborough families.

Yeah, we get it!

Just don't like the obnoxious whiny loud mouth fans constantly going on and on. And the hypocritical posturing of never to blame for anything when LFC fans think they can behave how they want.

It's not like it wasn't mentioned beforehand.

I'm sorry - in this case, it's not completely unexpected is it?

... and yes, I'd suggest that Bradford should be remembered in a similar way but, even if a bit sad, is it any surprise that Liverpool have more fans and well-wishers just on the basis that they're a far bigger, more successful club than Bradford were/are?

Some of the comments in the last few pages are depressing in their shallowness and banality.

Victor Meldrew I love the idea that fans of all the other clubs in this country applaud the opposition gracefully, never chant anything at all defamatory and never get involved in any aggro in and around football grounds.
Where have you fellas been all of your (admittedly short) lives?
Nobody is asking you to like Liverpool football club , just to show a bit of respect for fellow football fans (yes, real people and mainly young men and women) who went to a match and never came home.
Maybe when you are old enough (or capable enough in Kes' case) to have children of your own going to football matches without mum or dad you might just have a smidgeon of compassion for the families of those that died and for the people that died-they weren't just horrible little scouse scrotes they were normal British football fans excited about watching their team play an FA Cup semi-final.

For all the bigotry amongst football fans the Evertonians have been marvellous partly because some of their fans would have known or been related to some of those that died.
BTW I never hear anybody on here go on about Rangers fans being at fault for the crushes that led to the deaths of their fans in the 2 major tragedies in Scotland.

Bloody hell. Did you get that from a template off the Liverpool fans forum or something? Good to see you've done the stereotypical Liverpool fan thing of twisting it, to try and make people look out of order.

Nobody on here are disrespecting those that died at Hillsborough. The main problem is, Liverpool, probably more so than any other footballing city know what it's like to lose loved ones, yet some of their fans still act in an inappropriate way, pushing and shoving to get into games, blocking aisles and exits at away games, letting off flares and bangers, stabbings, smashing coach windows. Not that you would know as you don't go to their games.

You don't hear people banging on about Rangers fans as they havent spent a quarter of a century chasing a big compo cheque.

Thankfully not all United fans are this disgusting. Some great posts on red café (the biggest United fan forum) today. Also, the 2 United fans who work in our office knocked on my door to apologise to me the week after the Hillsborough independent panel released their findings. They had argued with me many times over Hillsborough but were big enough to admit that, having read some of the report, they had been wrong. We still have plenty of banter over matters on the pitch but they posted JFT96 on their facebook status today.

Oh....did anyone see the nob in the Leicester crowd last night holding up a piece of card from the back of a Walkers Crisps box saying "JFT96" in black marker? At least make a proper effort when trying to get on TV mate.

If they go on about Hillsborough a lot, hopefully people will forget all that.
