Sarah Star Just heard Rushden & Diamonds are in financial trouble, get barely 1000 fans to their games and may not even exist next season. They can't be the only ones left in a sticky situation at the end of this season.

Rushden & Diamonds to Rubbish & Dustbins. That's a shame if it's true. It's a nice little club, tidy ground too. I don't know a lot of these smaller clubs get by any more. TV money is very minimal at that level and attendances in the 1000-4000's in a lot of cases.

They were bankrolled in the 90's the way Crawley are today. An amalgamation of Irthlingborogh Diamonds and Rushden Town. I'll not shed a tear if they go out of business.

And their owner (the JCB man) lost interest and gave R&D to the supporters' trust with a £1 million fund.

Indeed. The catchment area just won't support a club of that stature.

Who Moved The Goalposts?
Royal Rother Generally speaking these days an offer needs to be 20p in the £ to stand much chance of being approved. 1p seems a tad unlikely to get through.

In any case, why would anyone vote for this? It's as good as writing off the money, and saying no would at least give the creditor the satisfaction that it wouldn't happen again. Offering this amount is a joke. The sooner a club is made to face the real consequences of their actions, the better.

Weel, its been accepted

0.77p for every pound

not 77p for every pound, but 0.77p for every pound pound

So they have basically wiped 99.23% off their debt

If I offered my bank .77p for every £ of my mortage I dount they would be so sympathetic

BBC Sport ...Amongst the big losers are Plymouth City Council, who will get back just over £2000 from the £285,000 due.

Inscapes, the company who laid Argyle's brand new pitch last summer, will be handed £2,695 of the £350,000 worth of payments still outstanding.

You've got to wonder whether this will put any local firms into financial trouble through no fault of their own, not to mention that the locals will be paying for this in council tax. Kind of puts any football club spending what they can't afford into perspective.

the more clubs get away with this sort of behaviour, the more it will happen

maybe a 10 point penalty i snot enough now if you go into admin and it should be demoted 2 divisions

I know its not the fans fault, but is this really fair on the fans of "well run" clubs?

Wow! There must have been some deals done behind the scenes to secure an arrangement like that!

Maybe not, but there's nothing wrong with being in the conference on gates of 1000. Clubs should be able to survive on that, except they all seem to be trying to go full time now, which is stupid.

I read the other day that Eastleigh, in the Blue square south getting crowds of about 600, are going full time.

I don't really think there's too much wrong with clubs being bankrolled in the way Rushden were. Rushden weren't spending the sort of sums Crawley are, and they did build a decent fan base. Much of the money went on building them a decent ground.

Even when they came last and went back down, they still pulled over 3000 a game, which is better than a lot of established league clubs.

They still got 1500 - 2000 in the first four years they went down, but crowds have dropped badly this season to about 1250.

The non league game is full of clubs spending ridiculous amounts, but that wasn't really the case with Rushden.

Another nail in football's coffin as far as I'm concerned. it just keeps getting worse every time you think it may get more realistic. Complete and utter joke.

Part of the reason why I turned my attention to non-league football 3 seasons ago.

Only for the team I supported to fold under the weight of debts caused by mind-bogglingly stupid financial mismanagement!!
