interesting and unsurprising that terry, lampard and cole were all discussing international retirement 'during' the world cup because they weren't happy with the management. good players or not, they're a hindrance if the reports are true that they weren't complying with capello's instructions. any player that thinks he's bigger than the team, especially the national team - we're better off without.

Lampard is an exceptional domestic player in a team that plays the majority of it's games against significantly inferior oppostion. He is not good enough for a "major" international team like England.

Bench player to replace Gerrard (who is genuinely a world class player able to up his game against the best) at best.

Hopefully Capello has learnt the lesson of building a team, rather than just picking the biggest most successful domestic names.

Whilst I agree any players proving to be a disruptive influence on the camp should take a long hard look at themselves and probably be booted out by Capello there are a few points to bear in mind.

1) any England international around the age of 30, and playing at the top clubs, probably considers and discusses internation retirement, especially when away from home for so long

2) jumping before your pushed saves a lot of damage to the ego

3) made up sources can claim anything to the papers to fit the writers agenda

The good thing about keeping Capello on is that hopefully he can learn from the mistakes at this tournament. The next guy would just be coming in and possibly repeat them.
