Gus the teenage cow the reaction to england scraping through in the worst group in the tournament as if they were world beaters makes me realise why a hell of a lot of people want them to fcuk up.

LOL at this - at least 80% of the callers on 606 straight after the game were not reacting as if England were "world beaters".

^^ This.

It's absolutely hilarious how often people will trot out the 'England think they are world-beaters' line with no basis whatsoever.

bollox, I am going on your mainstrream tv coverage and the interviews of your players by itv and bbc, reaction from players, pundits and managers..I am not going on the loonies that phone in to 606...gaby logan's interviews are an absolute disgrace, she is doing everything but sucking the cocks of the people she is interviewing and the "pundits" and players aren't much better, worst of all the manager seems to be pleased with that

if anybody thinks that hanging on to beat slovenia is good enough then england have absolutely no chance, i know they created 4 or 5 good chances but seriously they should be beating them comfortably...when i see the reaction from the people who count (players/manager) being so pleased after an average performance i am mystified, i have come to expect the pundits to be reactionary shit for brains but still if one player or manager or pundit said something like "OK we have qualified but that was nowhere near good enough and if we want to win wehave to improve greatly to have any chance"then I'd have respect, but at the moment England have got exactly what they deserve, second place in an easy peasy group and a tough route to the final that, thus far, they have shown no signs of being able to deal with

I don't think it's completely unfounded. Remember the headline on the front of The Sun when the draw was announced (yes I know papers are always going over the top).

England against
Algeria
Slovenia and the
Yanks

When fans and media are constantly saying how easy it's going to be it's hard not to believe them or as England have seemingly done feel pressured by those claims. Especially when the army of hangers on will never tell you anything you don't want to hear.

Germany beat a 10-man amateur side.

Germany LOST to the bottom team of their group.

Germany just about scraped a win against an arguably superior *Ghana*

---

England are unbeaten and have only let in ONE goal - a total freak.

If we will ever beat Germany THIS IS THE TIME.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a promising display from England, we will loose on Penalty's after drawing 1 - 1 after extra time.

We will also suffer a bad refereeing decision and the tabloids will lambast the official who dared to give a decision against England.

On Sunday , our World Cup will be over.

And how many people on here do the same when Reading win a game?

ROFLMAO!

Germany scored four goals to hammer Australia

Germany got done by the ref in their second game who gave out too many cards simultaneously ruining the game

Germany beat Ghana (a team with effective home advantage, who can only score penalties), who therefore are the worst side, no argument.

England are unbeaten but they only scored two goals. In an awful group.

England claim to have won two world wars when in reality it was the Yanks and the Russians wot won both.

easy.
after having slept on it. i've woken up even more excited about the prospect.

Who's this Irish chap giving us abuse for having hope?? isnt that allowed?
we're playing a good German side. We are a GOOD side.
It will suit us down to the ground, the chels/manu players can approach it like a champions league game.
We have every chance.

10 german bombers
2 wold wars
5-1, even Heskey scored

It's all banter, either join in or go on holiday for a couple of weeks.

Sounds like Schweinsteiger may well be out of the game. Would be a massive boost to England if true.

I thought that was much better yesterday and we show encouraging signs for the game against Germany.

Maybe there is some truth in the comments that we have big game players that can raise their games for the big club European nights but not for Wigan away some times. This attitude sinks in when they play international football and possibly it wasn't nerves but complacency which accounted for the first two performances.

Either way we are through and that's really all that matters. When you get through to the knock out stage I don't think it matters whether you are playing Ghana or Germany, you have to play to your best AND quite a lot of the time get the rub of the green with luck and refereeing decisions.

I am not saying that we will win the WC, but there is no reason we can't go further than the 2nd round either if the Gods are with us. Germany are a good side, but only a good side that England are capable of beating if they can play like yesterday plus another 20% we know they have still in reserve.

Roll on Sunday!

The Star Job Done. Bring on the Hun.
or something like that.

We can win as it looks 50:50 on paper. We have the better players and they have the better team. It's not like 96 or 90 when it was the best two sides in the tournament that were playing each other, but it is not quite like Keegan's Euro team, when it was the two worst.

Most of the press coverage of the whole world cup has been pretty level headed so far.
