Does anyone find it a bit curious that there's only been two sending offs (the Polish keeper and the Irish bloke) and one penalty (which was missed) in the entire group stage? Or have I missed something here?

Greek centre half was sent off in the first game too but, yes, the attrition rate is low and the lack of penalties remarkable.

Maybe UEFA are fed up with teams in the latter stages being weakened by multiple suspensionand have asked refs to ease off. Don't know about the penalties though, haven't seen too many blatent ones not given.

TBM I actually think John Terry has done himself some credit this tournament - he's not been in the spotlight, hadn't given any interviews (that bbc/itv hammer done our throat) and isn't spoken to after the game(s). I wonder if Roy has told him to keep a low profile and get on with his game.

Agreed. Long may he continue to shut the fukk up.

Although getting rinsed by Ibrahamovic in the world's slowest ever sprint was a little shit.

Johnson's ex-Chelsea m8, surely deserves a 7?

With all the respect I can muster, I must've watched a somewhat different match if you are seriously giving Rooney a higher score than Parker.
Rooney's first half consisted of :
- failing to leave the ground to get his head on a great cross
- standing on the ball when presented with a great opportunity to drive at the centre backs
- giving the ball directly to a blue shirt on at least half a dozen occasions when simply keeping the ball would have been easier

And a massive LOL at the England fan interviewed on 5Live this morning saying the reason England are doing better is because we've got a young and hungry team. The only way that is true is because Ashley Young is playing and we haven't fed any of the team for a week. Johnson, Terry, Cole, Gerrard & Rooney are all from the old guard. Milner very nearly qualifies, Parker is not part of the 'young' element and neither is Lescott

Having said all that, RH has clearly got a game plan that they are all buying into - it ain't pretty but it's pretty effective.

blindedbythelights I'll wager you £20 England don't

To be clear, you're betting me £20 that England don't make it out of the group stages?

Done.

I was going to give Rooney a 5, but +1 for the goal, as if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have scored...

Rooney deserved nothing more than a 4 last night, and that's being generous. He was absolutely awful. World class? Do me a friggin' favour.

He looked a mile off the pace. A 4 week break is absolutely no excuse. He usually starts a season with all guns blazing, why not now? It wasn't as if he was injured ffs.

He'd better improve for that is all I can say.

Not sure you were watching the same game as me...

Thought he did well, got himself in to some good positions and filled that hole behind Welbeck very well - he was so hard to mark and it showed by his free header in the first half, his goal and the break away chance. The problem was Milner and Young, normally for Utd he does well cos he gets himself into these decent positions and the wingers find him - last night we didn't have any width so Rooney's off the ball work was going un-noticed, as you have just proven.

I thought , in the first half at least, that all the England players had lead in their boots.

Anwyays, Gerrard was MOTM but I think the defence was pretty solid all round and Terry had a decent game. Definitely wise to keep him out of the media spotlight for this tournament and the team comes across a lot better when you don't have plums like him mouthing off in mid-tourament press conferences.

Rooney clearly wasn't match fit or match sharp but his link-up play improved and he did the most important thing of all; scored the winner.

Thanks, from you that means a lot. Once a pcunt, always a pcunt eh?

I have no major objection to him playing because if we go further he probably offers more than our other striking options but last night he hardly placed a pass to a white shirt, his first touch was awful, he had no real pace, and missed an absolute sitter. Not sure what else you need him to have done to get a hammering.

Oh, and Harry Redknapp's wife would have scored that winner.

Gerrards performances make me wonder how we would have done had we got rid of Fat Frank a long time ago.

Indeed, Fwank's best tournament for quite some time, his absence has been invaluable
