AthleticoSpizz 116 years in the leagues

Despite being dead and buried pre-christmas, looked like they had clawed out of the mire…only to fall back into it again.

Lots of (biggish) ex-league teams scrapping it out again in the Conference next season.

Anyone got the backstory on Oldham? Premier League/Division 1 in the early to mid ‘90s but then slumped slowly down getting worse and worse. Subsequently 20 years or so in division 3 with most season seeing them failing to get above halfway before dropping down to division 4 and now into the non league arena.

They’ve gone through managers in a way that makes Watford look the safest job in the land. I see their fans invaded the pitch on Saturday and the game had to be finished behind closed doors as well so all not good there at all.

Also Oldham’s last promotion was in 1990/91 - is there any club that has held FL status continually since 1990/91 that has not had at least 1 promotion?

Loafer Oldham become the first team to go from the PL to non league

When the oxf*rd were they pl

Not blaming you DD but once again we have an example of football being invented when the Premier League was invented and all things prior to then being regarded as irrelevant.

I can think of Oxford and Luton but nobody else at the moment that has fallen the same distance and nowadays if a club is managed reasonably (a big "f" perhaps) that gets to the Premier League really shouldn't fall that far what with the massive TV Revenue and parachute payments.

Maybe Derby will spiral further down and be the first ex-champions of the top level to disappear into non-league.

Notts County were in the the 1st Division in 1991-92.

Carlisle also dropped out of the league having playing 1st tier football but they only had 1 season in the 1st Division in the early 70s and came straight back up after 1 season in the Conference.

And Grimsby as well, so Oldham dropping out isn’t a first unless you believe football did only start in 1992 (in which case Reading have never played in tier 4 and are actually one of the better league sides having spent most of their time in tier 2).

Founding members of the Premier League. Joe Royal as manager. Early 90's. Are you a young'un, Loafer?

ISTR Simon Osborn scoring a corker at Boundary Park in the 94/95 season?

A scooped lob from the edge of the area after a sublime touch to lose his marker and I was there to witness it. It was a gloriously sunny September day and fcuking freezing, as it always is at Boundary Park.

Some gloriously biased home commentary from Rob Palmer there. Yes, he meant it

I only remember two things about that game - that brilliant goal (and it was definitely on purpose) and how bloody cold it was.

If only we'd been able to keep him for more than one season.

Remember it well, was a great day out. Spent a good couple of hours pre-match in a social club near the ground playing pool with some of their fans.

I lived in Salford at the time so it was a local game for me.

The only time I've been colder at a match was Turf Moor in a blizzard later that season.

You clearly weren’t at Odsal for the 3-0 defeat

One team i do feel sorry for is AFC Wimbledon. Not won a game since December, but they have had lots of draws, and the amount of points dropped from conceding late late goals is incredible. Just one of those points would of given them a fighting chance, but now good as down.

The keeper error for the late shambolic show on Saturday was just outrageous. Then matched by Bowen's rant at the referee, when the referee was absolutely spot on, and he should be tearing into his goalkeeper for costing them league status.

Thanks for that reminder FTDW-the pitch looked good for Oldham.
Great to see Shaka, Darius, Gooding and my favourite Reading player ever, Super Si.

What that clip doesn't really show is the deflection off the defender's studs for Lovell's second goal which spun it past the keeper. I remember it gliding in almost in slow motion. Again the clip doesn't really show that the keeper had no chance with it.

PATRIQT scoring a corker at Boundary Park in the 94/95 season?

Speaking of corkers at Boundary Park - I can't seem to find any footage of Curo's curler on a wet Tuesday up there. As memory serves it starts about 5 yards outside the post and comes back in, a la Roberto Carlos vs France in le Tournoi

paultheroyal he should be tearing into his goalkeeper for costing them league status.

They'll be going down to League 2, but yes, that young man should never play professionally again.

Bournemouth losing, Forest winning. 2 points between them in the live table them and they play each other in a couple of weeks

Could be the most spectacular of bottle jobs from Bournemouth

L1 final day is going to be something.

2 of Wigan, Rotherham & MK will go up. Any can be Champions too but MK will need a big GD swing over Wigan.

MK need to win and hope Rotherham don't to claim 2nd.

Other 3 play off spots between Sunderland, Plymouth, Wednesday and Wycombe - any can get in or drop out.

Wycombe are 7th and have 80 pts, so 83 may not be enough to make the playoffs when it can often get you the autos.

GD so tight that it could come down to goals scored. Plymouth, with 68, lowest scorers at the mo by 5.
