Which may or may not have made any difference. They could still have caught the virus regardless and tested positive or are you suggesting that vaccines offer 100% protection from COVID-19 and all of its variants?

The cavalier attitude to covid of the UK football clubs and their players means I have zero sympathy.

related - the team they didn't play are Rennes. I always assumed it was pronounced like 'wren', but a french bloke on a football podcast I listen to always said it as 'Rons'

This. All the other major European leagues have 90% or over of players fully vaxxed and to date there have been nearly no games called off due to outbreaks. Serie A had a couple in early October I believe but is at 98% fully vaccinated now.

Bayern (and others) have taken the lead in Germany by refusing to pay players forced to isolate/or catching it due to being unvaxxed. This included Joshua Kimmich, so a pretty high profile player, who having caught it and losing pay, has now said he will be vaccinated as soon as he is able.

Unvaxxed players can also not travel with the rest of the team and often have to change in separate areas.

I've always said that clubs should be forced to play youth or reserves and fined and ban players who don't get vaccine

Do we have to discuss politics in the football section?

Well, not directly, but it was more the case that we have the Champs league final to be (potentially) held in St Petersburg, we've got two Russian sides left in the Europa League, and Russia have a World Cup play off to come. All in the not too distant future. A decision has to be made fairly soon regarding the status of each of those matches.

I think there are protocols in place that prevents major FIFA/UEFA competitions taking place in warzones, they will have no option but to remove it from Russian soil should the conflict continue.

If everyone just stops panicking about it then the issue will die down. Russia can and will do what they like with Ukraine, nothing can be done about that and it isn't our problem. The level of panic being induced by the media is on ridiculous levels. They no longer can use COVID as a stick to beat us with so they will now use potential conflict with Russia as their new fear tool.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, Champions League Final will be moved from St. Petersburg.

Could be wrong, but I think the league finished in Norway in September, so Bodo/Glimt have only played a European match now and again since then. Their league winning team was also pulled apart as the better players left to join other clubs.

Fantastic stat:

Celtic become the first team to get knocked out of the Champions league, Europa League and Conference league in the same season.
