Gloria Gooner Referees feel under pressure because they are asked to look out for deliberate fouls? Thought that was part of their remit.

They are put under pressure because Wenger has gone out of his way to say his side are hard done by and that certain sides are putting his players at risk.

He doesn't rant for the good of his health, he does it to try and give his side an advantage. Do you not remember his outbursts at Martin Taylor and Shawcross? They were out of order and over the top and the in my opinion it probably ended Taylor's career in the top flight.

I thought that Taylor's career in the top flight ended because he was a bit shit really, and only capable of dragging himself up to anything approaching the necessary standard by kicking lumps out of more talented players.

You mean like most half decent defenders?

Taylor wasn't the best in the league by a long way, but he was doing ok for Birmingham at the time but after that be was a marked man and the verbal attack from Wenger seemed to hamper his game.

This incident is almost exactly the same as the Shawcross incident (and not much like Taylor's).

I've looked at the two incidents a few times and as far as I can see :

Both Shawcross and Wilshere controlled the ball a little way away from themselves
Both were slowed in their challenge by an opponent holding them back a little
Both arrived about as late as each other (both four frames on my slo-mo)
Both caught their respective opponents at almost exactly the same point on the shin

Then the difference, Ramsay's leg broke

Wenger's reaction:
Shawcross should be burnt as a witch, then hung, drawn and quartered, guillotined and probably stoned to death to make sure
Wilshere was a little unlucky

Now that's why I hate the Obscene Whinger. I've no problem at all with him defending his own player, it's crucifying the oppo that makes me mad.
