St. Brynjar Falcao out of the World Cup.

Such a shame, he could've had a great tournament. Interesting to see how they get on without their talisman, especially as they're in arguably the most open group. I quite fancy Martinez to bag a few.

Two of England's arch enemies look to have super strength areas of their squads which we could only dream of.

The Argie scumbags have one of the strongest crops of forward players I think I've ever seen for an International Squad:

Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Rodrigo Palacio (Inter Milan), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Paris St-Germain).

Meanwhile the Germans only name Klose as an out-and-out striker, but the abundance of midfield talent is crazy:

Draxler (Schalke), Ginter (Freiburg), Götze (Bayern Munich), Kramer (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Khedira (Real Madrid), Kroos (Bayern Munich), Müller (Bayern Munich), Özil (Arsenal), Podolski (Arsenal), Reus (Borussia Dortmund), Schürrle (Chelsea), Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich).

Roy Keane pulls out of ITV's WC punditry team. Bit of a pity that.

i think lowe experimented with putting gotze up front on his own in the match with cameroon...they have other options to play up front i know podolski, and muller can play there for sure. then they have more attacking midfield players/wingers to cover those spots. if the germans can get schweinsteger, khedira, and neuer healthy and ozil back to form they could win it imo. they have to start passing like a typical german side though, cause their match against cameroon was not up to scratch.

Reason?

Why would he give up a free trip to watch the world cup and just talk about what's happened......

Yep, the German hopes certainly rest on the midfield doing almost everything. I haven't got any particular reason for thinking it, but I'm not sure Germany will do as well as expected.

From a European perspective it is hard to see anyone from this continent winning the trophy.

Spain and Portugal will have warm open invites to the party, the rest of Europe however will have to compete whilst swimming against the tide as is usual when the WC is held in S.America.

Germany do look the strongest of the rest, France - England - Holland only have modest looking squads this time, Italy could go either way although they've had some epic tussles with the S.Americans in previous World Cups. Belgium look semi-decent but haven't had the WC experience that a lot of the others have. Greece, Switzerland, Croatia and Bosnia are all in the no-hoper category while the Russians look too insular to be contenders.

Milner at RB and Rooney on the left apparently.

First caps this evening for James Chester, Paul Dummett and Tom Lawrence this evening for Wales against the Netherlands. (Not in the WC, blah blah)
