harryroyal Stumbled across a celtic forum and someone on there had us down as a loyalist/protestant club. Anyone have any insight on this?

Royalist....maybe

I imagine it all comes down to one of our ex-managers being an ex-Celtic manager and us having a number of Irish players and we play in blue and white hoops which some with green/blue colour blindness may mistake for Celtic.... or is that the opposite side of the divide, I don't really understand it & don't care.

Stuka Brilliant stuff. Any chance of a link to the Celtic forum? They think all kinds of people are "Loyalists"

tbf a lot of them are pointing out, just like us, just how stupid the thread actually is. one person replied to me and agreed that reading isn't a loyalist club, and the only clubs that can really be associated with that are rangers and linfield (NI club)

You weren't right about the nickname, though. There was actually a supporters poll in the mid seventies about replacing "Biscuitmen" - "Royals" wasn't imposed from above as far as I know. This was long before I came to Reading though, so I don't know what choices were offered on the poll, maybe RL can fill us in.

Bizarrely, given this thread, it was chosen by an Irishman - manager Charlie Hurley.

The shortlist alternatives included the R's, the Blues, possibly the Lions, but nothing very noteworthy. I don't recall a poll as such.

I was already a member  . I don't think it's a problem supporting two teams if one is based in another country's league, but whatever.

We did once beat up a catholic guy on the tube on the way back from West Ham.

To be fair though it was just a bit of banter, and we didnt' steal his wallet... Just ripped his Travelcard up for a laugh

Pandoras Box
Why the oxf*rd would anyone from Berkshire give the slightest of shits about that archaic partisan nonsense? Next we'll be discussing whether Reading is a predominantly left- or right-hand w@nking club...

I reckon we could be left handed but maybe not predominately......I don't know...I just don't fvckin' know anymore :(

Left is the obvious choice unless you are good at using the mouse (most of which are ergonomically designed for a right-hand) with your left whilst pre-occupied. Right-handed typing is easier too, and the volume controls on my laptop are on the right-hand side. It all just makes a lot more sense that way.

You've got to hold and give and do it the right time, you can be slow or fast, but you must get to the line.

Genuinely one of the most stupid arguments on here....It's actually driven me to make an account just to comment and point out that you'll get a split of political and religious beliefs in our club because no group gives a flying oxf*rd about it. If someone makes a fuss then a fuss will be made, but I think until then its best to treat this kind of discussion the way I try to treat the kind of people who make an actual issue of this kind of discussion...leave well alone.
