Not sure about the petition but plenty of football officials ie.Peterborough Chief Exec coming out in favour. Progress I suppose in the way of support within football. Just the government and sport bodies now..

I believe Bob Symns has even stated that they are happy for London Road to be used as a trial.

Yes, plus Derby and other various other clubs have publicly came out in favour of a trial and last last week the Sunderland Safety Officer did so too, and Aston Villa want to host this trial. You probably all know about the trial happening soon in the SPL as well. More and more clubs are expected to come out in favour of this soon - if only so it can be properly tested to prove if it does/doesn't work, which is all anyone is asking for.

When fighting this campaign, for years successive governments have said "there's no demand for it from within football." That is slowly being broken down as clubs see that there is merit in allowing those who want to stand and those who want to sit to do so in separate areas. It removes the number one area of conflict for stewards (who are in an impossible situation in trying to enforce the unenforceable) and removes customer-care issues for so many people.

If a safe-standing area were to be introduced into the MadStad I can see no way on earth that it would be allowed to be adjacent to the away fans. So this raises, for me, an interesting question for the current Y26'ers: Would you move to a safe-seating area in the Northstand if it were to be offered or would you still stay in a (perhaps more rigorously enforced) seated section next to the away fans?

I'll tell you now that the rake at the MadStad is not suitable for a safe-standing area without some quite expensive modifications, so this would be very unlikely to happen unless it was coupled with the stadium expansion, when it'd be a lot easier to incorporate.

But until the law is changed to even allow a trial that's not going to happen.

My question was more philosophical, rather than practical!

I know, I just want to ensure that nobbers understand the constraints of the situation.

I'm in Y25 and would move to the North. I actually prefer to be behind the goal anyway. I don't go to the football because I can be next to the away fans.

It would be a huuuuge undertaking at the MadStad - cant see that happening.

I far prefer to be at the sides to watch the match, but for safe standing I'd move to an end.

beggars belief really

Some of the same nationwide tossers that complain about not getting seats on trains and buses etc...are perpetually whinging about wanting to stand up for two hours + at a football match

Indeed, I think Dortmund is slightly outside the jurisdiction of the Safety at Sports Grounds Act.

I expect better from you Spizz. You cannot possibly compare standing on public transport with more than a century of culture in the national sport.

Have you seen the gradient of the Südtribüne terrace? The North Stand is pitiful in comparison.

If it was safe standing (rather than terracing) then the rake isn't an issue at all as it uses the exact same space per spectator as seating does.

Rev Algenon Stickleback H
paulholsgrove Saw on skysports news on Friday that a rugby league team (st Helens I think) were moving into a new purpose built stadium. I happen to notice in the report that behind the goals/posts (or whatever they call them) both 'stands' were seatless with standing barriers.

Terracing is commonplace, but apparently only becomes dangerous when the ball isn't egg-shaped.

Good point, but I think terracing becomes dangerous when stupid and drunk people behave stupidly. Same as seated, but it is easier to monitor, get amongst and control a mostly seated group rather than a passionate standing mob. Mob is not used offensively here, just a good word to describe a collective gang who will behave with a collective mentality. We already see that in Y25/6 as many behave as a swarm of bees (less offensive than flock of sheep) and gang up on stewards or individuals or against those in authority.

I personally do not agree with the petition, but that is what petitions are for and good luck to those in favour. If it comes off - good for you. Enjoy - I'll sit in my comfy seat (must be getting old!!) Interestingly, where do I get to voice my negative opinion? Hmmmmmm
