What exactly are 'Clappers'? Sounds like something you'd pick up from a toilet seat.

Lolz. The poll would be the opposite had it read Slappers.

Clappers are those laminated board things that are folded up like a fan and if you hit it against your hand, it sounds like a clap. Prior to this, people used their hand to hit their other hand and this was an actual clap.

In all fairness to STAR, it's good of them to raise awareness.

Royal Lady Well, less than 24 hours into the poll, it's pretty conclusive what the HNA voters think. As this is but a snapshot of RFC fans everywhere, I'd say it was more helpful to STAR than STAR not bothering to ask anyone at all and thus just letting the club do it, with their help.

I have no doubt that a number of fans (mainly kids) will use this clapper things - but that's not to say that a lot of people think they're rubbish. They could have had some bins placed around the outside of the ground with them in and if you want one, you take one.

I don't understand the difference between having them in bins around the stadium or having STAR volunteers help to hand them out..... :| It's not as if they're forcing you to take one or forcing you to use one.

If, as you seem to think, the majority of fans don't want them, then they won't be used and you won't have to hear them.

so just 75 votes against them, with a home average of about 16k I am not sure that it is a conclusive vote against, HNA? is not a fair reflection of most RFC fans, as the member list is so small.

It's a conclusive vote ON HERE. And it's fairer than not bothering to ask anyone AT ALL. I merely did the poll to show STAR that it was possible to canvass people and put information on Hob Nob.

Silver Fox No, although I couldn't really care less if they do have them

Also, HNA isn't representative of Reading fans as a whole, as repeatedly proven, so a poll here is pretty irrelevant

Out of interest, how has it been proven? And where do you get a more representative cross section?

In the early days of the internet and HNA I would have agreed that those using HNA probably came from a pretty narrow demographic. Nowadays, I suspect that there is a far wider spread. It would be interesting to survey users of HNA to identify what the demographic is like.

The club only listen to those than contact them directly. If you imagine they get something like 10's and 20's of emails that support things like this, then if they received a 100 negative back, then and only then will they listen; but very few can be bothered to go to that length.

It only takes an email. One from you, your partner, other member of your household. Before you know it there's 2, 3 or 4 emails against...

The near constant complaints on here that nobody wants music after goals compared to the reactions of our crowd when music is played after goals is the most glaring example

CBA to read all 2 pages but I think clappers are a bit tacky and look like a bit of a half-assed attempt to boy up atmosphere when I didn't think we were doing badly at home this season anyway.

And half of them end up on the pitch as clapper aeroplanes and end up interrupting play anyway.

We're all taking the clappers, and prompty destroying them. Bloody horrible idea. No need for it at all when the place is buzzing like it is.

Clappers = Waste of money for either STAR or Reading FC, The last two home games will have a great atmosphere and as such no gimmicks are required. I'm against them anyway, but if they do add anything then the time to use them is when the team are struggling.

Kids for a kid day might be a better option or maybe the funds could have been used to instead print posters or cards with the fixtures on for next season.

When I say this I don't actually care that they're there, just that I won't use them.
