Sir John

by The Doctor » 04 Jun 2011 13:36

Reading FC - Official
Just had this posted on our wall by Reading fan Iain Kick:
To those who bizarrely criticize Sir John. He was secretly invited to my friends' wedding reception yesterday and turned up for a drink and a chat. A true gent and the ultimate RFC legend. I don't think many chairmen would do that for a fan. Anyone who thinks he has been anything but great for our club should be ashamed of themselves. Thank you Sir, you made my friends' day even more special and have turned our club into a great one. URZ

nice touch!!

Saw this as one of my fb mates went to the wedding. Good on him - I expect he'll be inundated with requests to do the same at loads of other weddings now!

Very nice guy, and good that he does these things.

We had a Midland Royals do in Stafford after the Stoke on the last game of the season in 02/03 prior to the play offs and him and Nigel Howe came along to chat to us and sign shirts and things. Spent a good hour or so with us and bought a few beers for people.

Two "appearances" in the space of 7 days - Tranny away (2-2 having been 2-0 down - Rougier and Salako for us) was the Sunday before Peterborough (2-2 with Whitehead flapping one into his own net).

he also, to my surprise, served me in the purple turtle and without charge. he turned up and put some money behind the bar. was this after brentford and celebrating promotion to the championship?
he gets a lot of unfair critisism. really nice guy and has done nothing but right by reading football club. we'll be a lot worse off when he does leave us.

If I made as much money from RFC as JM does I'd turn up at 365 random weddings a year.

Well I think then you will not need to go to any weddings then. All he has done is put money in, never taken any out, not even any interest he is entitled to on his loans. The money last year was called in by the bank not him. The club was never in jeopardy when all his other businesses where draining him dry of cash.

A Man United fan, moaning about OUR owner....... talk about irony!

At least Reading FC doesn't have to pay £200M a year in interest payments because SJM bought the club on money borrowed against the club's future earnings.

At least we can see our owners for what they are though. We get shafted with a fight,
