Red What was the gist of the article Mr A for those of us who didn't go to the game/were too cheap to buy a matchday magazine?
How exciting these times were for the supporters, how amazing the run to the play-offs has been, success due in part because of the team spirit.
It then goes on to say that its an answer to those who think success can only be achieved be spending more and more on players - both transfer fees and salaries - something Reading has never done; we don't compete in bidding wars for players, and instead concentrate on making players who possibly aren't the best out there, feel part of the RFC Community, ensure they are settled, happy and valued. Add that to the team spirit and - as with 2005/06 and this season - you get a squad without stars playing more effectively as a team then the sum of individual players would suggest.
This is a refreshing change to the approach of other clubs - which led to the sentence I highlighted originally and which I totally agree with - as it is the antithesis of those clubs who decide they need to spend, and continue to spend, money they don't have (like Leicester I presumed was the sub-text) and yet we are seeing success.
