O'Dea back at Celtic

by John Peel » 24 Dec 2009 17:52

Is it just me or was this a real missed opportunity? International with Champions League experience comes to play for team at the bottom of Championship, enjoys playing here but can't get a game. Yet we've had about two clean sheets all season. Yep, makes sense.

Cheers Darren - good luck back at Celtic.

Thanks Darren.

You'll be a good defender. Shame you can't stay until the end of the season.

Was he that good when he played for us though? Maybe he was just playing in a team in poor form. But imo, I saw nothing special.

I'm not saying he's amazing, but he's certainly better than what we've got though at CB. Can't argue with that (well, you can if you want).

I don't understand why a lub like ours, moments away form returning to the Premiership, with its millions in Prem payments parachutes and player sales has to resort to youngsters and loans.

I wish Madejski would loan himself out sometimes.

He always looked good when he played for us but what was the point of , when you are trying to get a settled team , including a player who is leaving in Jan ?
A season long loan ,fair enough but.....never mind . good luck Darren.

We don't. Remember our previous manager spent £2M on a central defender.

£1.5M rising to £2M according to the Daily Mirror at the time.

Four clean sheets and O'Dea didn't play in any of them iirc, despite starting 6 games and possibly getting on as a sub once or twice.

He was crippled by Rodgers' apalling tactics though really.

Personally I didnt think he looked that good

He didnt like to attack the ball, wanted too much time to deal with anything without being good enough to make that time for himself, and looked like he thought he was better than he was

Not that quick either, but of course he looked it alongside our other centre backs

Not a loss really

Quickish, comfortable on the ball, just needed more time alongside a player with the experience of an Ingi. With the Ivar of two seasons ago they'd have made a heck of a partnership.
