The Reserves

by Stuffed Crust Pizza » 30 Jul 2008 19:06

This season we see the return of the reserves to the Mad Stad for the forthcoming Football Combination Central Division 2008/09.

No more glamourous ties with the 'big boys' following relegation. Our 2nd XI will now be pitting their wits against; Aldershot Town, Brighton & Hove Albion, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace, Gillingham, Lewes, Millwall, Queens Park Rangers and Southampton. With free entry offered for season ticket holders, maybe we will see more turning to support the team.

The fixtures list has been released on the FA's website;

Mon 18th Aug (19:00) Av Southampton
Wed 10th Sep (14:00) Hv Lewes
Mon 15th Sep (14:00) Av Queens Park Rangers
Wed 15th Oct (19:00) Av Brighton & Hove Albion
Wed 29th Oct (14:00) Hv Charlton Athletic
Wed 12th Nov (14:00) Hv Gillingham
Wed 19th Nov (14:00) Hv Brighton & Hove Albion
Wed 3rd Dec (19:00) Av Crystal Palace
Wed 17th Dec (14:00) Av Aldershot Town
Tue 6th Jan (14:00) Av Millwall
Mon 19th Jan (19:00) Av Charlton Athletic
Wed 11th Feb (14:00) Av Gillingham
Wed 18th Feb (14:00) Hv Crystal Palace
Wed 25th Feb (14:00) Hv Aldershot Town
Wed 18th Mar (14:00) Hv Millwall

Not with a 2pm KO they won't. Why dont they make them evening games again?

Its a bit harsh on the reserves being relegated because the first team were!

They couldn't get promoted because the first team weren't, two years in a row.

Can anyone enlighten me as to why there is Lewes in there? I can understand all the rest but why Lewes!!

Surely there are other reserve sides that should be in there!!

The Official site has released this fixture list, which contradicts the one on the FA's website.

Tue 16th Sep (a) QPR 2pm

Wed 8th Oct (h) Plymouth 2pm
Wed 15th Oct (a) Brighton 7pm
Tue 4th Nov (a) Bristol City 7pm
Wed 12th Nov (h) Gillingham 2pm
Wed 3rd Dec (a) Crystal Palace 7pm
Wed 17th Dec (h) Aldershot 2pm
Tue 6th Jan (a) Millwall 2pm
Wed 14th Jan (h) Brighton 2pm

Suspect these may be league cup games against sides from the other division.

Tomorrow night see the reserves take in Swansea City, in what I beleive is a cup game. Murty returns from a calf injury, and according to the official site will start at centre-back!

The full team is:
1 Adam Federici
2 Julian Kelly
3 Scott Golbourne
4 Daniel Spence
5 Sam Sodje
6 Graeme Murty
7 James Henry
8 Oliver Bozanic
9 David Mooney
10 Noel Hunt
11 Nicholas Bignall

12 Tom Hateley
13 Mikkel Andersen
14 Clovis Kamdjo
15 Kelvin Bossman
16 Gary Frewen

Good mixture of senior pros fighting for first team football and young lads wanting to prove themselves to be included in the SSC's new 'youth policy'. Hopefully a positive result and some decent performances.

4-4-2

Murty centre back, Spence and Bozanic central midfield, Bignall on the left and Hunt and Mooney upfront

mooney, and HUNT up front for the ressies?
if we had a game this weekend id be very worried that long was starting at the weekend
hopefully now this game is just to give hunt another chance to shine, before playing him in the 1st team!
and mooney the game time he needs to get up to speed.
