Final away trip jinx

by floyd__streete » 08 May 2007 20:58

....needs to be be broken this Sunday. Back in 95/96 we won our final away league match of the season 2-1 at Birmingham to round off a season which was a narrow escape from relegation.

Since then we have had a couple of successful promotion seasons and a couple of play-off campaigns but not managed to win on that last away league trip in the last ten attempts. That is an abysmal 7 defeats and 3 draws; a poor 3 losses and 1 draw on random inflatables ( http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60729 ) days!

Our best league finish ever needs rounding off with a league victory against a good side who will attack us and that will bring the best out of us.....I hope. Balls to europe, that is an aside - I want to spend Sunday in celebratory mood and 3 points will go a long way towards doing that. Show your appreciation for the efforts of the players and management this Sunday by being noisy as your voices will have the best part of three months to recover.

Excellent post, Mr Streete.

Europe would be great, but I just want to end the season on a high and enjoy the day, and then the summer! 8)

And my car cut out at 85mph on the M1 on the way back. Fortunately it kicked in again before my nobbing passengers woke up.

You realise this is only true of the last away games of recent seasons don't you?

At least the one's going Sunday won't walk out with 10 minutes to go. The true fans will be there giving the boys the summer send off they deserve whatever the score.

Always look on the bright side of life someone once said... if you take into account ALL our last games of the season - home and away... well, its not actually much better. We have won two of the games of season matches - play-offs included or not - in the last ten years.
So, time to improve that dismal record, lads!

Anyway our final HOME game of the season isn't too bad as we last won against QPR! and before that was 1-0 against promoted West Brom with a Sidwell winner.
