Good draw to be honest, will be a good test for the younger players/those looking to prove themselves.

Could be re-arranged due to international commitments, but I doubt that would happen, I don't think we have enough international players to challenge that.

Home to Colchester, happy with that.

As you say a good tie for the team

That's a good draw. Nice little challenge to start the season.

Old Man Andrews Reading FC to take on Colchester United in the Carabao Cup 1st Round.

Game to be played over the weekend of the 5th of September.

To be confirmed, chances are it will be moved to Saturday 29th August given the 5th is an international weekend, but we shall see.

Good draw though. Former U’s keeper Sam Walker in goal and Callum Harriott to score the winner of course.

If so, would be interesting to see if we keep the Spurs friendly in place the night before. Will we actually have many first teamers missing due to internationals this time, we often have a swathe of younger players going for age group games but not sure how a likely first 18 would be impacted.

Looking at the squad...

McIntyre may be called up to Scotland u21s
Yiadom may be called up by Ghana (if they're playing)
Olise could be called up by a France under side (maybe)
Puscas will probably be called up by Romania
Meite might be called up by Ivory Coast (if they're playing)

So out of out squad, I'd only say there would be 1 guaranteed call-up.

Yep, I had Puscas and was stuggling after that at senior level. I think if 3 players get called up you can shift the date - I would imagine though we will see the game happen on the weekend of the 5th given we will likely use a mix of likely first team and fringe players.

That's play a weak team and get knocked out. This competition is a complete waste of time,. even more so this season with the condensed fixture list.

I agree with this to a degree, I think the majority of Championship sides will treat the competition as a side show and play their youth or B teams.
The competition should have been scrapped for this season, nobody would have argued against that.

In a time of lowered income, it would be a brave move to cancel a competition that has a sponsor and domestic/international TV deals. Not sure how much it is worth to individual clubs but every penny helps at the moment.

I've got the Friday off work to prepare myself and the Monday and Tuesday off after to recover*.

*This was actually due to the Brussels beer festival, but that got cancelled
